Jamie Carragher blasts Liverpool fans for booing Trent Alexander-Arnold after coming off the bench in Leicester win

Jamie Carragher has criticised Liverpool fans for booing Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the boyhood Red still yet to agree a contract extension.

Alexander-Arnold has been widely linked with a move to Spanish titans Real Madrid this summer with his contract up at the end of the campaign and no extension yet agreed seemingly.

Liverpool have already tied down two of the out-of-contract triumvirate in Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, though the right back appears to be set for a new challenge having won everything there is to lay his hands on with Liverpool.

As such, Carragher claimed that there were sections of the home support for Liverpool's recent 1-0 win over Leicester, relegating the Foxes in the process, when the eventual match-winner came onto the pitch.

But the legendary Reds defender was not a fan of the treatment and came down hard on any supporters who chose to boo the right back.

'I had a few mates who were at the game [Leicester vs Liverpool] and they said that he [Trent] got booed when he came onto the pitch [by Liverpool fans],' Carragher said, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

'I can understand that Liverpool supporters have all got different thoughts on him – some people are saying good luck to him, some people are really angry, and some people just think it is what it is – but you should never boo a player in your kit.

'He's playing for Liverpool; he's put the kit on and has played his part this season to win the Premier League – you don't boo your own players.'

Alexander-Arnold would eventually score the only goal of the game in the 76th minute as Arne Slot's side picked up three more points in their Premier League title procession.

With Arsenal then drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, the Reds need just a point against Tottenham to secure just their second Premier League crown.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold remained coy on his future when asked about it after the game, as he has done so throughout the saga.

'Look, I've said all season that I'm not going to speak on my situation,' he told Sky Sports after his match-winning contribution. 'I'm not going to go into any details but days like today are very special.

'Scoring goals, playing, winning games, being in title races, they are special moments that will live with me forever and I'm glad to be a part of them.'

Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool since joining their youth academy back in 2004. After breaking into the first-team in 2016, he has represented the Reds in 350 senior games and helped bring seven different pieces of silverware to Anfield.
