Jamie Carragher has criticised Curtis Jones after the Liverpool midfielder reacted to Mohamed Salah's social media post

Jamie Carragher has criticised Curtis Jones after the Liverpool midfielder responded to Mohamed Salah's recent social media post.

Salah, 33, who announced in late-March that he will leave the Reds at the end of the season, unleashed a scathing critique of the club and seemed to point the finger at Arne Slot following his team's 4-2 loss at Aston Villa on Friday.

"I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that," Salah said.

"Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.

"That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

"Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family.

"I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I've always said, qualifying to next season's Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen."

Jones responded to Salah's statement with a clapping emoji, while Hugo Ekitike was the other Liverpool player to weigh in, dropping a handshake emoji beneath the post.

However, Carragher has seemingly disagreed with Jones' decision to get involved with the debate, feeling he should have stayed well clear of the row.

Sharing his take on The Overlap Stick to Football, Carragher said: "I think Curtis Jones commented on it didn’t he? Put like a clapping emoji. I thought that was a bit strange. I thought Jesus, 'This is why we don't play heavy metal football because of some players a little bit like Curtis Jones in the squad'.

"He takes six touches on the ball before he passes it, I thought, 'Steady on son, stay out of that one'. Let Salah do whatever he wants to do. He's leaving. I'm not that too bothered really and maybe they all look up to Mo Salah… thought it was daft for all of them to do."

The former Liverpool defender added: "I said earlier in the season he's trying to get the manager sacked. Now whether people agree with me or not, I've been proven by him coming out and doing it again. This idea he's doing it for Liverpool FC, he's not, he's just Salah FC who plays for Liverpool."

Salah has just one more appearance to make for Liverpool, a home clash against Brentford on Sunday. He is set to leave Anfield alongside fellow long-serving team-mate and left-back Andy Robertson.
