Arsenal were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been speaking about the Gunners' defeat to PSG

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher dismissed the idea that Arsenal delivered a "tactical masterclass" in the Champions League final, before outlining why fresh signings are essential to progress in Europe. The Gunners were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on Saturday, losing 4-3 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 following extra time.

Arsenal entered the contest having lifted the Premier League trophy just days beforehand, and had the opportunity to claim an historic double before meeting PSG.

Mikel Arteta and his team will now turn their attention to preparing for the upcoming campaign, which will feature the summer transfer window and the possibility of new additions.

Arsenal's loss to PSG became a talking point during The Overlap Fan Debate, where Carragher spoke with a Gunners supporter about the fixture.

When the Arsenal fan claimed that Arteta and his side had pulled off a "tactical masterclass" against PSG, Carragher was swift to deliver a blunt response.

The former defender simply said: "It wasn't." Carragher then proceeded to explain the reasoning behind his view of Arsenal's approach.

He said: "I probably shouldn't have been so forthright there. If you win that, it's seen as a tactical masterclass, a [Jose] Mourinho masterclass.

"You think of how highly regarded Brian Clough is in this country for what he did in European Cup finals [with Nottingham Forest]. They won it in that type of way, they were that type of team.

"I don't know if it's Arteta or if the actual players in the attack are not quite good enough.

"But you [Arsenal] had a favourable run to get there, and then you didn't lose to PSG. To not lose a game in the Champions League is unbelievable and not win it.

"I just think you've got to get better attackers or you've got to go for it a little bit more."

Following Arsenal's defeat at the hands of PSG, Arteta outlined how he and the club intend to use the summer months to gear up for the demands of next season.

"First of all I will take a few days with my family and they will start the process to review what we've done," Arteta said.

"We start to make some very important decisions if we want to reach another level. And we're going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it, but it's going to demand to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart."
