Jesse Lingard's future at Manchester United has taken another twist after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s latest comments on the midfielder.
Lingard has not featured for United since September, and reports have suggested that his Old Trafford career is coming to an end.
The England international has been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Tottenham after entering the final 12 months of his contract.
But it seems he may still have a future at United after Solskjaer claimed he was planning to include him in his side to face Everton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
The Norwegian also explained why Lingard has been absent for months, revealing that he has been forced to self-isolate multiple times due to coming into contact with people who have had coronavirus.
“Jesse will be in the squad, yeah,” Solskjaer said. “He's been working hard in training.
“He's been unfortunate with having to isolate a few times, been in contact, or close contact with Covid, not even having it himself.
"He's been very unlucky being away from the training ground a few times.
“He works really hard and he'll be involved in the squad, definitely, on Wednesday.”
United can book themselves a place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a win at Everton on Wednesday night.
And Solskjaer insists that he is desperate to lead United to some silverware to give the whole club a boost.
“Of course [winning a trophy] is something we're aiming for,” he went on. “We want to improve every season and to improve on last year is to get to the final and, of course, when you get to the final there's only one thing that matters and that's to lift the trophy.
“I remember myself winning my first trophy. Even towards the end of my career, I think it was Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic's first trophy in the Carling Cup, 2006 was it?
"I think that was their first trophy and it does give something to a team. We are desperate to get our hands on a trophy, these players are desperate to learn how to win.”

Am surprised that at 28 some of us here are saying that Lingard be be given time. Are we seriously supposed to be having this discussion at all. Lingard is without doubt a very sensational and intelligent player. But what is the use of intelligence without hard work and high level of commitment. Lingard is an on and off player. Just Like his friend Pogba. I remember once Lingard was referred to as Manchester United or England Iniesta. People saying Lingard be given more time are not been realistic or probably want to drag us back to where we have already left. Can't even remember the number of coaches he has played under and all gave him chance to prove himself until they are certain there was no any other chance to be given by him again. Lingard is a forgotten issue and his issue should be allowed to rest once and for all.
