After Portugal's elimination from the 2020 European Championship, Joao Felix will undergo surgery in Porto on Thursday by the Dutch surgeon Niek van Dijk to repair an ankle injury, one which has been affecting him in the last few months.
The Atletico Madrid prodigy is expected to be sidelined for one month and should recover in time for the start of the 2021/22 season, in which he will try to rediscover his best form.
Joao Felix's performances between last October and November demonstrated the 21-year-old's potential, but injuries didn't allow him to find consistency last season.
He lost his spot in both Atletico and Portugal's starting line-ups due to his lack of fitness, with those around him being certain that his ankle knock has prevented him from shining in 2021.
Atletico's physios worked daily with Joao Felix to prevent a setback in the final stretch of the season, one which ended with Los Rojiblancos winning the LaLiga Santander title.
The club are confident that Joao Felix will become a crucial player for Atleti in the near future and are refusing to listen to offers for him.

It's better to score penalty and celebrate than to miss it and fake retire 😂
