The Three Lions coach has opted to drop both Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere as he selects his 23-man squad that will travel to Russia this summer.
Gareth Southgate has announced his final 23-man England squad for the World Cup, with high-profile absentees including Jack Wilshere, Joe Hart and Ryan Bertrand.
Former first-choice goalkeeper Hart has been dropped from the squad following poor form at West Ham for Burnley's Nick Pope , while Arsenal midfielder Wilshere has also been omitted from the side that will travel to Russia.
Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand is a surprise exclusion from the defensive line, though Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has been handed his first senior England call-up after a sensational season following his hand in helping the Reds reach the Champions League final.
Southgate has opted to go with John Stones , Kyle Walker , Gary Cahill , Harry Maguire , Danny Rose , Phil Jones , and Ashley Young for his defensive options.
Seventeen-year-old Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon has not been selected for the squad despite a stunning season with the Championship side.
Jordan Henderson could take the armband as well as anchoring the midfield alongside Dele Alli , Eric Dier and Raheem Sterling . Adam Lallana passed a late fitness test and has been named in the team, while Jesse Lingard , Fabian Delph and Ashley Young will also form the heart of the Three Lions squad.
Tottenham starlet Harry Kane will once again lead the England line with support from Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck and Marcus Rashford , at the expense of Bournemouth's Jermain Defoe.
England's World Cup 2018 squad in full
Goalkeepers: Butland, Pickford, Pope
Defenders: Walker, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Stones, Cahill, Jones, Maguire, Young, Rose
Midfielders: Dier, Delph, Henderson, Loftus-Cheek, Lingard, Alli, Sterling

England will begin their Group G campaign against Tunisia on June 18, before fixtures against Panama on June 24 and Belgium on June 28.
STANDBY LIST: Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski, Lewis Cook, Jake Livemore, Adam Lallana
Expectations aren't high for the Three Lions although favourable Group H opponents in the last 16 - Colombia, Poland, Senegal or Japan - could offer a potential quarter-final berth, where Germany or Brazil would likely await.

This team feels like Watford (no offence to their fans) against the likes of City, Barca, Bayern or Madrid when compared to great teams like Spain, Germany, France or Brazil. How on earth did Lallana who has barely played this year make it at Wilshere's or Shelvey's expense. It's a pity I can't support my own team at a World Cup. This team is so underwhelming.

I am highly disappointed in the squad. Gareth would have to convince me,why Lallana and not Wilshire? Why Alexander Arnold and not Smalling? Experience and big stage temperament is important. Also Smalling's aerial ability in opponents area is phenomenal.

of course expectations aren't high after all there is an English team in the Champions League final, the young English teams have won and finalized in their respective World cups, but who knew the senior squad should aim so low. obviously the black balling those of the previous world Cup and euro failures is in full effect, except where desperation requires the likes of Cahill and Young. Southgate has made his bed now so only he can sleep in it chinks and all. I can't say I expected different. as for Wilshere and his injury woes what about Lal, Welbeck and Rose. who is going to provide the eyes and brains to break down opponent defenses I don't see it in this "team" and this team should bear enough fruit to justify this new old tyranny of low expectations. the problem with eye brain combination is their delicacy while processing the world in milliseconds. they must be protected, almost all limbs and body politic is designed to protect these high value targets for destruction these processing giants necessary for survival, even more protected than the sex organs, but considering England and their lust for power the sex organ is more protected. this is a studly team. yes Wilshere would require protection he would require picks for he is a point guard looking to get behind the first line of defense, he would require shielding, just like Pirlo, people forget how protected he was, I never so a player who moved so little but was so lauded. why because no one could get close enough to him. Juve protected him Italy protected him, such was the values placed on his brains eyes and passing. as I said air strip one has no vision they have succumbed to a lower ideal, I don't expect much either. snore... this team was stitched together buy a feeble fingered former failure himself, only hot air comes in through the temple's south gate. this is my team, the best of the rest
