The Ecuadorian press reports that Joel Ordóñez is on the verge of joining Liverpool during the winter transfer window. Long linked with Marseille last summer, the 21-year-old defender finally stayed at Club Brugge after the Belgian club blocked his departure.
Since then, Ordóñez has continued his rise, playing 23 matches this season, including six in the Champions League, and confirming his status as one of Ecuador’s most promising talents.
According to outlets such as Teradepotes and Diario Expreso, information relayed by the Daily Mirror, Liverpool has already reached an agreement with the player. Hit by injuries and uncertainty in defense, the English club sees Ordóñez as a strategic reinforcement.
The transfer fee could reach around €50 million including bonuses, a figure that would place him among the most expensive Ecuadorian players in history. If confirmed, this move would mark another major step forward for Ecuadorian football on the European stage.
