Jorginho transfer decision can be blessing in disguise for Arsenal

Latest Arsenal news takes a closer look at why Jorginho's transfer decision amid links to Fenerbahce is good news for Mikel Arteta on the long-term

Plenty has been made of Arsenal's summer transfer window.

Of course, as the transfer window remains open in Portugal and the Saudi Pro League, it means Arsenal's business for the summer may not be over just yet. Although whilst Nicolas Pepe and Cedric Soares could depart before the end of the month, it would appear that Jorginho is staying put.

In fact, it's been confirmed by the midfielder's agent, Joao Santos, that the Italian will not be linking up with former Chelsea teammate Michy Batshuayi at Fenerbahce amid talk of the Super Lig outfit making a move before the transfer window in Turkey slams shut on September 15.

"Jorginho is focused on Arsenal. Therefore, on the Premier League championship and the Champions League," Santos said when speaking to Italian media outlet tuttomercatoweb earlier in the week. "He will not go to Fenerbahce."

Had the 31-year-old been open to an exit and was granted a move by Arsenal it would have left Mikel Arteta unable to sign a replacement. This prospect may have been fine for the first half of the campaign, but come the turn of the year it would undoubtedly have raised some problems.

Now, the Premier League winter break, which is set to return between January 14 and 20 will help matters if Elneny and Partey, in particular, are absent for four fixtures. However, if Arsenal are in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and advance to the FA Cup fourth round then that's four extra games to consider.

All of a sudden the aforementioned pair's likely absences will be felt but that is where Jorginho comes in to help ease the workload on £105million record signing Declan Rice during the period where the Gunners face Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and West Ham United, as things currently stand.

The Italy international was brought in by Arteta in January as backup for Partey in the deep-lying midfield role. Whilst he has slipped down the pecking order since Rice's arrival, he's been brought on in games against Palace, Fulham and Manchester United to help protect a result.

Jorginho's stance on focusing on Arsenal and thus not willing to entertain Fenerbace's advances should prove to be a blessing in disguise for Arteta as he's likely to prove his worth during the period where Partey and Elneny could be unavailable for selection due to international commitments.
