Tottenham's players are beginning to break their silence after the sacking of Jose Mourinho with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both thanking the head coach.
The two key men, who combined often throughout Mourinho's tenure to devastating effect, are the first to take to social media and express their gratitude.
Mourinho was officially handed his marching orders this morning due to Tottenham's poor league position and failure to make an impact in the Europa League.
Kane netted a brace in the 2-2 draw at Everton last Friday, the fixture which has ultimately proved to be Mourinho's last in charge and the final straw.
The two goals, including the last-gasp leveller, were not enough to spare Mourinho from the axe, and Kane led the way with his statement.
'Thank you for everything boss,' talisman Kane wrote. 'A pleasure to have worked together. I wish you all the best for your next chapter.'
England captain Kane has scored 31 goals this season, with 45 altogether in Mourinho's tenure, and proved to be a sore miss after his absences with injury.
Son, meanwhile, also penned a heartfelt post and accompanied it with a photo of Mourinho and himself enjoying a moment of affection on the field.
The message read: 'I have no words to describe how I’m feeling, it’s been a pleasure to work with you.
'I’m sorry things didn’t work out and truly grateful for the time we’ve had together. Good luck and all the best for the future.'
Tottenham's training session on Monday morning was taken by first-team coach Ryan Mason, who has stepped up to take interim charge until the end of the season.
RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann, one of the hottest properties in world football, has already been earmarked by many as the favourite to succeed Mourinho.
First, however, the club will turn their attentions to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday - with the chance to win a first trophy since 2008 on the line.
Mourinho will no longer be the man to lead out the team at Wembley - with chairman Daniel Levy admitting disappointment that his appointment eventually soured.
'Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic,' Levy said in Tottenham's statement.
'On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
