Juventus 0-0 Torino: Neither side can break the deadlock in the Turin derby

  /  R47

Juventus missed the chance to move within a point of Serie A leaders Napoli following a goalless draw with rivals Torino.

Match Report

Luciano Spalletti's side endured a frustrating day at the Allianz Stadium, where they had produced 1.26 expected goals (xG) from 22 shots to Torino's 0.54 from eight attempts.

The Bianconeri created the better chances throughout the contest. Francisco Conceicao twice went close during the first half, while Khephren Thuram tested Torino goalkeeper Alberto Paleari from distance.

Il Toro improved their own attacking threat after the break. Giovanni Simeone headed straight at Michele Di Gregorio from close range, with the Juve goalkeeper also called into action to deny substitute Che Adams.

At the other end, Paleari produced a magnificent reflex save to keep out Weston McKennie's header from point-blank range. The United States international was thwarted once again by the Torino stopper soon afterwards, as the spoils were shared in Turin.

Data Debrief: Spalletti joins Trapattoni and Allegri on quadruple figures

At 66 years and 246 days, Spalletti became the oldest coach to lead Juventus in a Serie A derby against Torino. He is also the second since 1994-95 to coach in the Milan, Rome and Turin derbies, after Claudio Ranieri.

However, the former Italy boss is the first Juve coach not to win his first top-flight derby with Torino since Carlo Ancelotti, who also oversaw a goalless draw in November 1999.

This is the first time since the 2001-02 season that Derby della Mole has seen successive draws in Serie A.

On a brighter note for Spalletti, though, he did become the fifth coach to reach 1,000 points in the Italian top flight during the three-points-per-win era, after Giovanni Trapattoni, Nereo Rocco, Nils Liedholm and Massimiliano Allegri.
