Mario Mandzukic's second-half header earned Juventus a 1-0 win over Inter in Friday's Derby d'Italia, strengthening the Serie A champions' grip on top spot in the table.
Match Events
8' CHANCE! Dybala's header over the bar
Chance for Juventus! Ronaldo cuts inside from out wide and gets the better of Politano before firing a wonderful cross into the middle of the box. It manages to pick out Dybala, but the Argentine ends up sending his headed effort over the crossbar.
29' CLOSE! Gagliardini's shot off the post
Gagliardini hits the post! Inter pull off a sensational attacking move as Politano cuts inside from the right wing and picks out Icardi inside the penalty area. The Argentine quickly knocks the ball back to Gagliardini, who only has Szczesny to beat but hits the post with his slightly scuffed effort
35' CHANCE! Mandzukic's header saved
De Sciglio sends another good ball into the heart of the Inter box and manages to find Mandzukic. It's sent slightly behind the striker, but he does well to force Handanovic into making a diving save with his downward header.
36' GREAT HEADER! Chiellini's header saved
Fantastic save by Handanovic! The resulting set-piece is curled right on to the head of Chiellini, who meets it well and forces Handanovic into making a brilliant diving stop at the near post.
48' Politano misses a huge opportunity!
Huge opportunity for Politano! Juventus are all over the place at the back, with Matuidi losing the ball on the edge of his own penalty area. It allows Politano to get a shot away, but his effort isn't entirely convincing and fails to find a way past Bonucci.
66'GOAL! Juventus 1-0 Inter (Mandzukic)
GOAL! Juventus have taken the lead! The home side have been pushing hard over the last 10 minutes and have finally found the back of the net. Cancelo heads towards the byline and whips a cross over to the far post, where Mandzukic easily gets the better of Asamoah and finds the back of the net with a diving header to make it 1-0 to the league leaders.
Match reports
Juventus moved 11 points clear at the top of Serie A after beating Inter 1-0 in Friday's Derby d'Italia thanks to a Mario Mandzukic header.
Inter had the better of the chances in the first half, and came within a whisker of taking the lead through Roberto Gagliardini, but his effort came out off the post.
Those missed chances proved costly, however, with Mandzukic heading his eighth goal of the season to secure victory for table toppers Juventus.
A 14th win from 15 league games moved Juventus 11 points clear in pursuit of an eighth successive Scudetto, while Inter stay third, 14 points off the pace.

FT: Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan Another Juventus win, ground out despite having rode their luck. It puts them 11 points clear of second-placed Napoli at least until tomorrow, when Carlo Ancelotti's side host Frosinone.

A few observations: 1. The first half was technically brilliant. Inter creating the better chances, but both sides playing really great football 2. Need to single out Cancelo, Bentancur, Chiellini and Brozovic. Brozovic hardly put a foot wrong all night, whilst Bentancur was just spotless. Chiellini - imperious once again with last ditch blocks, headers, winning 50/50's etc. 3. So many times we say - when you're on top vs a top team, you have to score. On the balance of play, Inter never deserved to lose and created the better chances. 4. Spalletti's substitutions possibly cost Inter a point. Joao Mario and Perisic were woeful. Instead, he took Politano off and brought on a slow Valero who added nothing. 5. Credit to De Sciglio - defensively very good. 6. Bentancur MOTM. just my point of view

Hard fought victory for Juve, after Inter missed glorious chances in the first half , now juve is building very wide gap of 11 points above the chasing pack. Super Mario made the difference.

As I said before, where their defence excels, that's about all that looks great. On paper Juve have like the second best attack in Europe yet they win by 1 goal differences maybe 2 on the off chance. I think Juve have been massively overestimated cos of ronaldos addition to the team. Like people are already calling the champions league theirs. Just cos you have Ronaldo on the team, doesn't mean you automatically win UCL. That's not how it works. For a front 3 of Dybala, Mandzukic and Ronaldo plus Costa and Cuadrado available too, Jive have been very underwhelming. I think that their goal scoring issues come from the lack of creativity in midfield with Pjanic being the only viable passer in the team. If Juve want to be both offensively and defencively sound then they need to get in at least 1 creative midfielder to create for those up front....

Mandzukic is one of the most clutch players in Europe. Always shows up in big games for Juve. Scored against Napoli, Lazio, Milan and Inter so far this season. And this is without mentioning the great season he’s had. 8 goals and 2 assists in 13 games. 4 goals in his last 5 games

What's the difference between France and Italian league? It's like single team league for instance Juventus has won league title almost 7 years consecutively.

Stop it, Ronaldo had a dreadful night. His first touch was poor, he lost possession far too often, didn't create much, hit an awful free kick and no I'm not a hater. It was just not his night.
