Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt scored the goals as Ajax ended Juventus' Champions League campaign at the quarter-final stage.
Match Report
Ajax dumped Juventus out of the Champions League as a stunning 2-1 second-leg victory at Allianz Stadium on Tuesday completed a famous 3-2 quarter-final triumph.
Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt scored either side of half-time to overturn Cristiano Ronaldo's opener and send the Eredivisie side through to the last four of the competition for the first time since 1997.
The Bianconeri appeared on course to progress after Ronaldo, on target in last week's 1-1 draw in Amsterdam, nodded them ahead in contentious circumstances.
But Erik ten Hag's thrilling young side took command thereafter and collected another high-profile scalp having already ended Real Madrid’s reign in the previous round.
Match Events
21' CLOSE! Van de Beek misses a golden chance!
Neres' quick feet earn him a yard of space inside a crowded Juventus box. He plays a neat one-two but can't get on the end of it as the ball deflects away from him, but it's into the path of Van de Beek just a couple of yards out! He dives to turn it home but can only divert the ball over the bar! What a miss!
28' GOAL! Juventus 1-0 Ajax (Ronaldo)
JUVENTUS TAKE THE LEAD! Ronaldo meets the corner with his head and bullets the ball into the bottom corner past a static Onana! He had no chance of saving that! It's 1-0 to Juventus!
34' GOAL! Juventus 1-1 Ajax (Van de Beek)
A left-wing cross comes out to Ziyech and he takes a speculative shot at goal. It deflects through the crowd and straight into the path of Van de Beek, who is one-on-one with Szczesny and slots calmly into the far corner! It's 1-1!
52' GREAT SAVE! Szczesny denies Ziyech's shot
What a chance for Ajax! The visitors have men over and Van de Beek works it wide to Ziyech on the right. However, the angle closes on him and his eventual attempt at the near post is saved well by Szczesny! That was a really good opportunity.
67' GOAL! Juventus 1-2 Ajax (De Ligt)
The underdogs take the lead for the first time in the tie and it could prove significant! De Ligt meets a corner above Sandro and powers a header down and into the back of the net! Juventus are shell-shocked!
74' Unbelievable! What a miss from Neres
Huge chance for Ajax! A dink forward is dealt with poorly and Ziyech has the opportunity to play it over the top for Neres inside the box. He goes for a first-time effort as the ball drops for him but his contact is scruffy and it bounces over Szczesny and clears the crossbar! What an opportunity!
79' OFFSIDE! Ziyech's goal disallowed
NO GOAL!! Ziyech tries to cut it back from the left and Neres is tackled. The ball comes back to him and he curls the sweetest of strikes into the top-right corner with his weaker right foot, but the flag goes up for offside! VAR then checks and confirms the decision.

If Juventus really wanted to win the Champions League, they should've signed Florentino Pérez, not Cristiano Ronaldo. 😂😂😂

Allegri again, terrible tactics, if you're 1 goal ahead he can at least be a bit higher on the field, but decides to park the bus in the back. Ronaldo can't score if no one delivers a ball into the area, no one had the midfield in Juve, Matuidi and Pjanic and Dybala was the worst player on the pitch he had to get taken off, they all stuck to the wings, there was no control of the midfield when Juve had the ball. Everything else was Ajax being as magical as they've been this whole season, I truly can't wait to see how it will be against either Spurs or City, I'm kind of hoping they face City to see how possession vs possession looks like, Guardiola making tactics to face Ajax would be a sight to see. De Ligt showed why he's the most wanted, and Tadic finding his teammates with such a massive creativity it impresses me more everytime I see him. Ziyech, Tadic and Deek were absolute stars in the forward play, Blind and De Ligt in the back cancelled out any attack, while Juve depended on Ronaldo way too much yet they didn't help him, he was the entire difference for Juve in the front, they're lucky their keeper stopped Ajax from scoring up to 3 goals, I'm gonna say he made the save of the season. Thank you Ajax for such beautiful football, Allegri can't man manage, he needs to go.

For people trolling Ronaldo, don't forget that all of Juve's goals from round of sixteen up to this point have been scored by Ronaldo. For chrissakes, he carried the team. Kudos to Ajax, though. They were the better team.

It was very obvious to be frank. Juventus did not dominate in the first leg or this match. Hell they didn't dominate against Altletico Madrid also. This is due to lack of creativity in midfield. The only thing that they did was to provide crosses in the middle and since Ronaldo is their main man and a good header of the ball, he scored goals for them. But this Ajax team is one hell of a team which contains creative midfielders like Ziyech De Jong, etc. They totally dominated over both legs. Therefore I personally didn't find it very surprising. It would be very surprising to see Ajax in finals if they pass through Manchester City (most probably) in the semis. We simply can't write off this team from the competition. Beautiful play from Ajax.

People are talking about Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester city as serious contenders. But is about time we take this Ajax team serious.

what was the essence of benching Chiellini with this small calf injury even in this second leg where u know this match is crucial. Ajax played de jong who has a hamstring injury. This is Serie A, This is Champions League. This coach should be sacked. we don't know whether he is attacking or defending. If u are defending play 442 with bentancur inclusive, benadeschi and dybala out and Kean pairing with Ronaldo. If u are attacking, play cancelo and spinazolla 2, and 3 and Kean pairing Ronaldo, so that they can be sending crosses in. Truthly speaking, this coach is confused. This is the first time he is handling such pressure in his career. Coaching Ronaldo is too much for him. That was why he nearly quit the job this season. Juventus sack this coach and bring someone who can handle the pressure well enough to get deserved results. You can't be spending like this and expect mediocre results. Sack him!!! Allegri, we don't want u anymore!! CR7, THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME

Not surprising tbh, I called this since the group stages. Juve going forward is trash this year and rely on Ronaldo which makes things even worse cos just marking him out the game wins the opposition the game. Juve is known for their defending which they do well but their forward play never really been the best and people really thought that a 34 year old Ronaldo would be able to win UCL with a defence oriented team? c'mon. Ajax took a well deserved W and in fact at this stage I'm not surprised cos there is always a dark horse in the UCL, this year Ajax will light up the UCL same way Roma did last year. The winner of the UCL imo is between City or Barca but Ajax will take 4th place. I'm team Ajax all the way cos they are the 1 team who's fans dont annoy me...

👉They bought Ronaldo to do better in Champions league 😀 But they are knocked out for the first time in 4 years at the stage of 1/4 finals! 👉de Ligt said he wants to knock Cristiano out, and he did it! *Double pain for Ronaldo: they knocked his former club and his current Juve out! 👉Ajax did really great👍 The team is mentally solid and functions like one man. They met Real and people thought they were finished, they won. They took on Juve, and ah! this time they have no chance. First leg lost. Well, it is over. They will be burried at Turin, people thought. And yet, they proved people wrong once again. 👉Now they are like a fierce lion that other teams dread and fear!

The problem here is that Ronaldo thinks he is the greatest of all time and he is not he’s a scoring machine but he is not skilled enough with breathtaking footwork he doesn’t dribble much he doesn’t pass he’s arrogant it’s always about him on any team he is on and he can’t live with the fact that messi is much more talented having said that it’s still a team sport and very rarely a player can win a tournament by himself messi can still shine by assisting and dribbling if Ronaldo doesn’t score he doesn’t shine anyways he is a great player and he has his best days in Madrid but he is not magical and will always certainly be second to Lionel Messi and that’s what pisses him off the most

I have told before what a worst decision Ronaldo made by joining juventus. How many times can a player single handedly save a team like juventus. Messi gets support from barca, that's why barca is unparalle. But this juventus was clearly given the advantage by the man both in home and away games, but they the garbages could not capitalize on that. Even he did not get the support from his mates as well. So Rest in Peace Juventus and don't even dare to win CL in future. And Ronaldo try to find an another team where you would get the support and winning mentality of other players. They can't pass, they can't defend, they can't score and they are dreaming of CL. Take a nap. All the best to Ronaldo and really it was heart breaking.

1. Ajax are the first team in history to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League after surviving three qualifying rounds. 2. 2018/19 will be the first Champions League season not to feature Cristiano Ronaldo at the semi-final stage since 2009-10, when he was eliminated at the Last 16 stage with Real Madrid 3. Matthijs de Ligt is the youngest Dutch player to score in a Champions League knockout match (19y 246d) since Nordin Wooter in April 1996 for Ajax vs Panathinaikos (19y 237d) 4. This is football ❤️

Ronaldo did everything possible. Scored twice and assisted in the group stage, scored a hattrick to seal a comeback win for Juventus and once again scored in both of the legs against Ajax but couldn't prevent Juventus from getting knocked out. Ronaldo, You derseve a better team. Juventus doesn't doesn't derseve you.

It doesn't matter who we bring in. Even if we bring in Messi too, with this current tactics we can't win the Champions League. The way we are playing in certain games is good because we looked to be chasing the win at all cost. But today, Allegri seemed focused on defending the goal lead. I hate to say it but we deserved to loose this game. When you decide to bench a player that have been scoring when CR7 was having a slight problem with injury (I'm talking about M.Kean) and start with Dybala who in this season seemed slightly out of confidence, in a must win situation... now that's tactical suicide. And Ajax, whom lots of people said to be a minnow are actually a very, very good team to boast.

Even though am a die hard Messi fan.. I feel For CR7 the man single handedly bought Juve into the quarters.. How much can u expect from the guy.. Football is a team game all the other 10 also should contribute in the game.. Felt the real Madrid spirit was missing in the juventus team.. They were not pressing enough and lost procession at crucial juncture.. But taking nothing away from. Ajax they were beautiful.. Passing was top notch and man marking to.. Will miss Cristiano in the semis and final. Would've made a mouth watering clash if juve and barca had met in the final.. The goats meeting again hope it happens next season..

Ronaldo is the striker , so obviously he will be scoring goals , not schenzy will come upfront to score fool! And don't tell me that if Juventus played Kean or Mandzukic ahead of ronaldo, they couldn't score goals. ! Ronaldo carrying Juventus! Juventus reached 2 finals 1 semi final with the same coach and same players without ronaldo! fool Juventus got knocked out of their local cup against Atlanta when Ronaldo was playing which they were winning for years before him.... Juventus got knocked out of champions league when Ronaldo was playing...... So where is Ronaldo ? And who is he carrying!🤔🤔 Maybe just an underwear
