AC Milan and Juventus are engaged in a transfer deadline day battle to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports in Italy.
The transfer window for Serie A and B shuts on Friday, August 17, leaving those with their eyes on a title challenge scrambling for late reinforcements.
Among those most in demand is Lazio midfielder Milinkovic-Savic, who has been linked as a long term target for Manchester United.
However with the Premier League window closed, some of Italy's biggest names have stepped in to try and sign the Serbian international, according to Tuttosport.
They report that Milan have made a concerted late effort to sign Milinkovic-Savic, while Juve are continuing to monitor the situation.
If neither side has the time to conclude a move, it is likely that talks will continue outside of the window with a view to a deal in January or next summer.
Juventus may be in the market for a midfielder after allowing veteran Claudio Marchisio to leave the club on a free transfer, following 25 years in Turin.
Earlier this summer, Lazio president Claudio Lotito claimed that Milinkovic-Savic is a superior player to Manchester United star Paul Pogba.
He also revealed that Lazio turned down an incredible £99m bid at the end of August last year from an unnamed club.
Lotito said: 'I have not received any official offers either from Milan or Juventus, let alone from Real or United. Of course, I do not push to sell him but if you ask me how much he is worth then I remember that last year, August 29, I refused a £99m offer.'

we need Savic more than juve because they're full in the Midfield unlike us . we don't have this type of midfielder who can take the ball from our side and switch the play to the opponent side like Savic do he was the game changer last season with Lazio. we need him to reach our purpose this season
