Kane says he could be a pro golfer - but reveals team-mate who is even better

England captain Harry Kane could finally win a title, but on the golf course rather than the football pitch.

The striker, 30, has yet to bag a major honour with Bayern Munich, Spurs or the Three Lions. He faces Arsenal in the Champions League tonight with Bayern.

On his golf skills, he said: “It’s something me and the guys here in Munich have spoken about and I also spoke about it a lot with the other lads when I was at Spurs.

“Everyone who liked their golf would be saying, ‘Do you reckon you could turn pro?’ Not to be too arrogant, but part of me thinks I could because I’m someone who, when I put my mind to something, I feel like I can achieve pretty much anything.”

Kane told Golf Monthly that he likened scoring penalties to taking a golf shot. He said: “I guess the closest thing is the routine I have before taking a penalty kick versus the pre-shot routine you have before every shot in golf.

“A penalty kick is one of the only times where you’re an individual on a football pitch and one of the only times where you’re not reacting to the ball or another player.

“So I think that mentality and that mindset of having a routine before doing something is the closest comparison between the two sports. For every penalty I take, everything’s the same. Every time I practise, it’s the same as every time I do it on the pitch.

“So I guess that’d be very similar to a routine any golfer would go through before each of their shots on the course. When I’m playing golf and I’ve got a four-foot putt to win or halve the hole, or any shot to be honest when I’m in a pressure situation, I think that’s when I really rely on the fundamentals of routines to help me handle that pressure no matter the stakes.”

Kane said he was a 3-handicapper at the moment and had been better in the past. He said: “I went from starting as around an 18-handicapper and then, after a few years, I got down to 10. Year by year, I slowly got lower and lower.

“I’m a 3-handicapper right now, but I was a bit lower at one stage back when I was playing a little bit more – I even got down to scratch a few years ago.

“I haven’t played too much since I’ve made the move to Munich – I’ve had to sort a load of other more important stuff out before I can get back to dedicating time to golf. I just love golf. I’m always watching it and playing it as much as I can.” He said Thomas Muller is the best golfer at Bayern, while Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford are among the best with England.
