According to L’Équipe, Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema (36) has opened the door to him potentially representing France at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
As part of his final squad to represent France at their home games, Thierry Henry will be able to select three players over the age of 23 to participate in his squad of 18 players. It remains to be seen who will be entrusted with the responsibility of representing Les Bleus at their home Olympics with several candidates being rumoured with the opportunity.
The France U21 manager hopes that he will be able to select Kylian Mbappé (25), Antoine Griezmann (32) and Olivier Giroud (37), according to Le Parisien. However, Real Madrid have ruled out their players participating in the Olympics which makes the likelihood of Mbappé representing France highly unlikely with the PSG forward set to sign for L’os Blancos in the summer.
When asked by L’Équipe about the potentiality of playing at the Olympics, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner said, “The Olympics? Of course, why not? It could be great!”. If Henry was to make the shock decision and select Benzema for the Olympics, this would be his first participation for Les Bleus since his surprising retirement on his 35th birthday.
