Bayern Munich announced that head coach Kompany received a special individual award from the Bavarian Minister-President, while 23-year-old Bayern player Nathaniel Brown was honored with the "Outstanding Young Athlete Award." At the awards ceremony, Kompany spoke about his relationship with players and fans, and his affection for the city of Munich.

Immediately after Bayern's 2-2 away draw against Augsburg, Kompany and Brown boarded a shuttle bus for a special event that evening.

At the Bavarian Sports Awards ceremony in Munich, Bayern head coach Kompany received the Minister-President's Special Individual Award from Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder. At the same time, 23-year-old Brown also received the "Outstanding Young Athlete Award."

In his laudatory speech for Kompany, Söder stated that Kompany had "achieved extraordinary things in an extremely short time" and therefore fully deserved this special honor.

Söder remarked, "You have captivated us all!"

The Minister-President recalled Bayern's "legendary Champions League matches against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain" and noted that Kompany had built an impressive team.

Söder said, "You accomplished all of this while consistently demonstrating great approachability and humility. I believe you could be one of those coaches who will usher in a new era at Bayern Munich."

Regarding this praise, Kompany stated, "For me, the most important thing is the players' hearts. And ultimately, if the fans can appreciate the effort we put in, I will be happy."

Kompany also expressed that he quickly came to understand Bayern Munich and the entire region.

Söder then turned to Munich's bid for the Olympic Games, stating that "Bayern Munich made a very strong impression."

Kompany added that whenever someone visits him, they are deeply captivated by Munich.

"I am very happy to live here, and I hope more people have the opportunity to discover this beautiful city and region."

The jury stated in its rationale for the award that Brown is "one of the surprising and positive discoveries for the German national team." Just hours before the awards ceremony, he had scored the crucial goal that leveled the match against Augsburg at 2-2.

Upon taking the stage, Brown thanked his mother amidst enthusiastic applause from the audience.

His mother was also in attendance that evening. Since Brown was a child, she had supported his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Last year, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge received the Bavarian Minister-President's Special Individual Award. Additionally, Bayern Women's team was designated "Ambassador for Bavarian Sport" in 2025.

At this year's awards ceremony, the long-serving former Bayern CEO, along with honorary president Uli Hoeneß, president Herbert Hainer, and current CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, were invited to attend and witnessed the ceremony in the packed venue.

With this award, Kompany joins a distinguished list of Bayern awardees.

Previously, Bayern legends such as Franz Beckenbauer, Thomas Müller, Philipp Lahm, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Oliver Kahn, Sepp Maier, and Rummenigge have all received this special award.

Among past recipients of the Outstanding Young Athlete Award are also Bayern players like Kimmich, Hummels, and Musiala.

Uli Hoeneß has also been recognized at the Bavarian Sports Awards.

Enrico Valentini, Nuremberg's record appearance holder who previously worked with Brown at the club, reflected on Brown's remarkable rise in his laudatory speech for the new Bayern signing.

Valentini remarked that when a player serves as team captain, they often feel at some point that they have seen almost everything in football.

"Then a young player comes from the youth academy into the team, and you take him under your wing a bit. A few years later, he's playing for Bayern Munich, wearing the national team jersey, scoring goals at the World Cup, and you're standing here giving a speech for him."

Valentini then added with a laugh, "Dear Nene, if I had known then that all of this would happen so quickly, I would have asked you for a few signed jerseys in advance. Those jerseys would probably be quite a good investment now!"

Valentini stated that Brown possesses incredible pace, both on the pitch and in his career progression.

"Sometimes, people feel that the pace of your career development almost exceeds the pace of your personal growth."

"But precisely for that reason, I am even prouder of you. Because you are able to handle all these rapidly evolving changes so well."

"You have always remained humble and calm. You still listen, remain diligent in your efforts, and have not wavered from your path despite everything that has suddenly happened around you."

Valentini emphasized that this award should not be a new source of pressure for Brown, but rather recognition of his past efforts and personal growth.

"This award should not add new expectations and pressure to your shoulders. It is recognition for what you have already achieved and how far you have come."

"You deserve this award. Because of your talent, diligence, courage, and most importantly, your character."
