After the Netherlands' exit, former Dutch national team midfielder and current ESPN pundit Kees Kwakman assessed the match and called for a change of coach for the Dutch team.
According to Voetbal Primeur, Kwakman believes the national team should bring in a new head coach following their FIFA World Cup exit. The Netherlands were eliminated after a 2-3 penalty shootout loss to Morocco. After suggesting Koeman's replacement, Kwakman stated on ESPN: "It's time for some freshness and new changes. I also think it would be good for the players. It's perfectly fine—after a few years and several consecutive tournaments, this kind of change is bound to happen. Hopefully, that way, we can also bring back some new ideas and concepts, and perhaps even rekindle the spirit of Dutch football."
Dutch coach Koeman did not comment on his future after the match. Koeman led the team to the Euro 2024 semifinals, but the Dutch team was eliminated in the round of 32 at this FIFA World Cup. The next major tournament is the European Championship to be held in the UK in 2028.
