Spain's football leagues have been plagued by frequent incidents of racism, prompting La Liga to release a statement on its official social media opposing racism in sports.
"La Liga wrote on its official social media: 'There is no place for racism or acts of hatred in sports. La Liga strongly condemns any racist behavior and will continue to work to eradicate these intolerable actions from our sport.'"
Previously, in an interview, Vinícius stated that if Spain cannot resolve its racism issues, the World Cup should be held in another country.
In the latest incident during the Segunda División match, Real Oviedo player Hassan became the target of racist abuse. In the match against his former club Sporting Gijón, Gijón fans shouted "bastard" and "stinking monkey" at him.
