L'Equipe: PSG agree terms with Neymar but still in discussion with Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Neymar, but now they're still in discussion with Barcelona to lower the cost of the transfer, according to French media L'Equipe.

L'Equipe claim that the Brazilian star will sign a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side which will earn him €30m per year, making him the joint highest-paid football player in the world.

Neymar has a €222m buyout clause in his contract. Currently, PSG are in discussion with Barca to avoid taxes as much as possible.

According to French law, signing a player from another club by triggering the buy-out clause is an illegal transfer act (which is a common thing in Spain or Portugal), so PSG have to give the transfer fee to Neymar, and it will be Neymar himself who terminate his contract with Barcelona and join PSG as a free agent.

However, when a transaction occurs between 2 clubs or one club and one player from different countries, like here between PSG and Barca or PSG and Neymar, the payer need to pay a huge amount of tax about 50% of the total sum. That is to say, PSG may have to pay more than €300m to 'liberate' the Brazilian star.

Therefore, PSG are now trying to persuade Barcelona to lower the transfer fee of Neymar. Nevertheless, considering the transfer saga of Marco Verratti before and the 6-1 comeback Barcelona made over PSG, the relationship between the 2 clubs is anything but good.
