Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski could be on their way to Miami. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will present a proposal Monday to its board to ask UEFA for approval to stage the December 20 Villarreal vs. Barcelona clash — scheduled for Matchday 17 of LaLiga — in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
What needs to happen for Barça to play in Miami?
If UEFA signs off, the request would move to FIFA, which has the final say on whether domestic league games can be played outside their home country.
The official agenda item reads: “Submission to UEFA of the request to begin proceedings for the subsequent authorization by FIFA to stage the Matchday 17 First Division National League Championship match between FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF, SAD at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami (United States, USSF, CONCACAF) on December 20, 2025, in accordance with FIFA’s International Match Regulations and the rules adopted by the RFEF.”
U.S. game a long-time goal for LaLiga
Holding a LaLiga match in the U.S. has long been a goal of Javier Tebas, now also serving as vice president of the RFEF. If both UEFA and FIFA give the green light, Villarreal vs. Barça will take place in Miami at the end of the year instead of in the Catalan capital.
