Leonesa 2-1 Atletico (AET): 3rd-tier hosts eliminate Atleti out of Copa del Rey

Atletico Madrid suffered an embarrassing extra-time defeat to third-tier Cultural Leonesa as they crashed out of the Copa del Rey.

Atletico Madrid suffered a shock defeat in the Copa del Rey round of 32 as Sergio Benito's extra-time strike secured a famous 2-1 win for minnows Cultural Leonesa.

Diego Simeone's side were sluggish for much of Thursday's encounter at Reino de Leon, though Angel Correa's 62nd-minute strike seemed set to send Atleti through.

However, third-tier side Cultural fought back - Julen Castaneda's venomous volley forcing extra-time.

And it was Benito - who had earlier missed a glorious chance to open the scoring - who had the final say, his precise volley in the 108th minute sparking huge celebrations from the home fans as Cultural claimed the unlikeliest of scalps.

Felix slips Vitolo in with a perfectly weighted pass through the centre. He gets to it before the onrushing Giffard, but can only poke it wide to the left of goal as he stretches to reach it first.

19' Herrera's long shot stopped by Gifffard

Atletico win a corner on the left, which is taken short before being returned to the taker, Herrera. 

He carries the ball to the left corner of the penalty area and bends a shot goalward, but Giffard does well to tip it over the crossbar.

36' OFFSIDE! Gudino’s goal disallowed

The cross is fired in towards the far post and headed down, back across goal by Rodas. 

Adan makes an absolute mess of diving on the loose ball and somebody sticks it in the net, but the whistle has already gone as Rodas was offside.

54' Saul's shot over the bar

Saul looks to thread a left-footed pass in behind from 30 yards out, but it's cut out at the edge of the area.

Sanchez gets across to prevent a cross coming in from the right, and Cultural get a corner. The delivery is flicked on and loops up toward Benito at the far post, but he puts a free header into the side netting from close range.

58' CHANCE! Vitolo misses a golden chance!

Felix finds Vitolo and the ball loops up kindly to take him between two defenders at the left corner of the area. 

He's through on goal and looks to slip it past Giffard, but only side-foots a tame effort straight at the keeper

62' GOAL! Cultural Leonesa 0-1 Atletico (Correa)

Correa puts Atletico in front! A looping header in midfield drops to Felix, who controls it in behind for Correa with a deft touch. 

He makes no mistake from just inside the area, finishing left-footed into the bottom-left corner.

83' GOAL! Cultural Leonesa 1-1 Atletico (Julen Castaneda)

Castenada pulls the third-division side level with a brilliant finish! A corner from the right is cleared but the ball is crossed back in from the same side. Adan comes out to punch it clear but only spoons it up in the air. 

Gudino keeps it alive and it loops up, just beyond the penalty spot for Castenada to fire a brilliant left-footed volley just inside the left-post. He couldn't have caught it any better.

Felix gets his first real shooting opportunity as space opens up at the edge of the area, but he shanks his effort over the bar. He sinks to his knees and pounds the floor in frustration. 

102' Saul's header stopped by Giffard

Another astonishing save from Giffard! The corner comes in from the right and Saul heads it on target, right down the middle of the goal and just under the crossbar. 

The keeper looks to have strayed way out of position but he reacts superbly to fly back across goal and tip it over.

108' GOAL! Cultural Leonesa 2-1 Atletico (Benito)

CULTURAL LEAD, IT'S BENITO! The third-tier side counter a corner, Gudino curls a brilliant ball from the left to the right corner of the six-yard box, and Benito finishes brilliantly with a side-footed volley at the near post.
