Liam Rosenior confirms Chelsea will investigate leaked line-up before PSG defeat

Chelsea's team was leaked before their loss at PSG with the media posting their starting XI as Liam Rosenior vowed to figure out what was behind the intel getting out

Liam Rosenior has claimed he will "get to the bottom of it" after he was made aware of potential team leaks within the Chelsea camp before their PSG loss.

The Blues performed valiantly for more than an hour in Paris before dropping off late on, leaving them with a mountain to climb if they want to keep their Champions League hopes alive when they play in next week's second-leg.

The press got hold of the Chelsea starting XI and it was doing the rounds by midday - eight hours before kick-off at the Parc des Princes. Their information was correct and that line-up was mixing it with PSG for long periods.

Rosenior was quizzed on how the intel got out, something he was initially unaware of, but the Chelsea boss insisted he would investigate the situation. He said: “I wasn’t aware. I’m sure we’ll get to the bottom of that if that’s the case.”

Chelsea had claimed some impressive scalps in Europe this term, beating Barcelona at Stamford Bridge and claiming a notable win at Napoli. They were holding the European champions to a 2-2 draw with 16 minutes remaining before Vitinha made it 3-2 and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came off the bench to grab a late brace.

PSG's third goal owed to an error from goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen. The Dane had been employing a high risk strategy with the ball at his feet throughout the night, and eventually came unstuck. He gave away possession and was lobbed by Vitinha, which proved a pivotal moment.

Rosenior though had no interest in berating his goalkeeper. "Players make mistakes," he said. "Filip's not the first one to make a mistake. And that's part of football. Obviously, it's bitter... In that moment, at 2-2, I think we were in the ascendancy. We were an inch away from going even to 3-3.

"I think Joao Pedro's goal was like an inch offside. But in the top level, in the Champions League level, it is fine margins. And the fifth goal was the most painful one, we don't settle ourselves down. We don't deal with the basic pattern of play. They score a fifth goal and make the tie very difficult for us."

PSG are aiming to become only the second team in the Champions League era to defend their crown and Rosenior admits they have talent - the likes of which we don't see in England.

“In the Premier League, there is no Doue, no Ousmane Dembele, no Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, no Vitinha or Joao Neves,” he said after the match. “It’s an exceptional team. Exceptional European champions.”
