With the October international break behind us, club soccer is back in full swing across the globe. In Mexico, one of the most anticipated matchups this weekend features two global icons: Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas.

The former Real Madrid teammates will face off on Saturday, October 18, at Estadio BBVA, as Monterrey hosts Pumas UNAM in a Liga MX showdown that promises high drama and elite talent.

This marks the first time Ramos and Navas will meet in Liga MX competition. Navas recently joined Pumas for the Apertura 2025 campaign, while Ramos has been anchoring Monterrey’s backline since February.

The two share a rich history together, having played side by side at Real Madrid from 2014 to 2019 - a golden era that saw them lift multiple trophies and cement their legacies at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Their paths crossed again at Paris Saint-Germain, where Ramos signed in 2021 and reunited with Navas, who had already been with the French giants. They spent another year and a half together in Paris before heading to Mexico.

Pumas and Rayados both in need of a win

Now, Ramos and Navas be on opposite sides, each fighting for three crucial points. Ramos’ Monterrey currently sits third in the league table with 26 points, while Navas’ Pumas are in tenth place with just 13 points. With only five matchdays remaining in the regular season, every result counts.

It’s worth noting that both teams are navigating rough patches. Despite Monterrey’s strong position, they’ve managed just one win in their last four outings. Pumas, meanwhile, are winless in their last four matches as well.
