Tottenham claimed a potentially valuable point in their bid to stay in the Premier League as Richarlison's goal clinched a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Match Report
Richarlison, who helped drag Liverpool's rivals Everton to safety in 2022, popped up in the 90th minute at Anfield to cancel out Dominik Szoboszlai's opener.
Szoboszlai punctured a bright Spurs start with his fourth direct free-kick goal in the Premier League this season, a new record for a Liverpool player, in the 18th minute.
Guglielmo Vicario should have done better to keep it out, but he atoned somewhat when he tipped Cody Gakpo's shot onto the post soon after.
Yet Liverpool never stepped up the intensity from there, and Richarlison almost made them pay when he headed wide, and then straight at Alisson, just before half-time.
Richarlison's personal battle with Alisson continued into the second half – he finished with a game-leading five shots, four of which were on target – while Arne Slot looked to his bench for inspiration.
Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike could not get that second goal for Liverpool, though, and the Reds' weakness was exposed again as, in the 90th minute, Richarlison swept home to snatch Igor Tudor's first point as Spurs boss.
Just two of the 92 teams from England's top four tiers have failed to win a league game in 2026 – Spurs and Sheffield Wednesday – but ahead of next week's huge clash with Nottingham Forest, Tottenham have some confidence.
Data Debrief: Richarlison gives Liverpool the blues
Richarlison might have left Everton almost four years ago, but he still relishes going up against the Toffees' rivals.
Against no side does Richarlison have more Premier League goals than Liverpool (six), with his strike taking him to 100 goal involvements overall in the competition (73 goals, 27 assists). Roberto Firmino (132) and Gabriel Jesus (118) are the only other Brazilians to hit that milestone.
It was a tireless showing from the 28-year-old, who led Spurs for touches in Liverpool's box (nine), duels (19), and duels won (nine). Richarlison is also the only player in Premier League history to score two goals at Anfield in the 90th minute or later, as a visiting player.
For Liverpool, it was a familiar story. They have now conceded eight Premier League goals in the 90th minute or later this season – their most in a single campaign, overtaking seven in 2010-11.
Liverpool have also dropped seven points from winning positions at Anfield in the Premier League this season, their most since the 2016-17 campaign (also seven).
