Liverpool 3-2 Milan: Henderson, Salah & TAA fire as Reds win bandying game

On a night that will be remembered as a perfect advert for high-intensity football at Anfield, Liverpool made a winning start to their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 victory over AC Milan.

If we saw the best of Liverpool going forward, we also saw the promise that AC Milan have in the same area, even without Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

A Fikayo Tomori own-goal opened the scoring for the evening after nine minutes of play, rewarding the Reds for their blistering start.

Liverpool were then awarded a penalty, yet Mohamed Salah had his strike saved by Mike Maignan, before the match was turned on its head just before half-time.

Rafael Leao played a ball into Ante Rebic who fought his way to the loose ball in-between Liverpool defenders, before he placed a cool shot into the back of the net.

That came in the 42nd minute of play, but as soon as the 44th minute the Rossoneri were ahead on the night as Brahim Diaz tapped the ball hope from close range.

Liverpool, to their credit, didn't panic at the start of the second-half, despite Milan having a goal disallowed for offside through Simon Kjaer, and it was Salah who equalised just after the break following a smart lobbed pass from Divock Origi.

The winner came 10 minutes later from a corner that wasn't cleared properly, and Jordan Henderson channelled Steven Gerrard of years' past and struck a sweet low volley into the bottom of the net to secure all three points.
