Jurgen Klopp has reportedly met with the representatives of Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat - with Liverpool keen to sign the midfielder.
Amrabat is currently representing the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup and he has been a major part of their historic run to the quarter-finals - the first time the African side have ever reached that stage.
He has played every minute in Qatar, including all 120 of their penalty victory over Spain on Tuesday, and the defensive midfielder has been one of the breakout stars of the tournament.
And, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp met with Amrabat's representatives as the Reds look to step up their attempts to sign the 26-year-old.
The Merseyside outfit are in the market for a central midfielder, having gone in for Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer before he moved to Real Madrid.
They are widely reported to be the favourites to sign Jude Bellingham - but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita are all out of contract next summer, while Curtis Jones and Fabinho have struggled for fitness and form this year - meaning the Reds may need to sign more than one midfielder.
Amrabat currently plies his trade for Fiorentina and the report states that he would be open to leaving the Serie A club in order to achieve his aim of playing in the Champions League.
Klopp has reportedly already held a meeting with his representatives and will have further talks following the World Cup.
Amrabat impressed as Morocco topped Group F - which included Croatia and Belgium - and his form in Qatar follows a superb two-and-a-half seasons with La Viola, having joined from Club Brugge in 2020.
The defensive midfielder has a year-and-a-half left on his deal in Italy, meaning that Fiorentina may be open to selling in order to cash in on his value now.
His agent Mohammed Sinouh has also claimed that there is much interest in Amrabat following his sensational displays in Qatar.
Sinouh said: 'Of course, I get a lot of phone calls for Sofyan. The whole world has seen he's the best holding midfielder of the World Cup.
'Sofyan is top professional, he's focused on World Cup with Morocco.'
His brother, Nordin - who played for Watford between 2016-2018 and now plies his trade for AEK Athens - also ramped up interest in the midfielder, claiming the top clubs in Europe had finally realised how good he was.
'I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan,' he told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
'When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.
'I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up. In January, Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, but there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina.
'I think the interested parties will now line up.'
However, if Liverpool do firm up their interest, they will have to fight of competition, with both Tottenham and Inter Milan thought to be keen to make the move for Amrabat.
As per his brother's comments, Spurs were reportedly interested in the midfielder, before instead deciding to sign Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur in January this year.
Liverpool return to action with a Carabao Cup tie against Manchester City on December 22.
Meanwhile, Morocco and Amrabat face Portugal in the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon at 3pm (GMT).

That guy is supper good, I watched him against Spain with special interest and wow, this guy was vital to Morocco style of play but defensively and up front, he always carries the ball from the midfield to the attacking end, bad decisions from the end product if not Morocco should have scores from his contribution upfront
