Liverpool break EPL record with Spurs win - and are on course for eight more

Liverpool beat a Premier League record with their victory over Tottenham this evening - and they are on course to break nine more before the end of the season.

Against Jose Mourinho's side, the three points picked up saw the Reds move onto 61 points from 21 matches this campaign so far.

Never before has a side collected that many over the first 21 games of a Premier League season, with Manchester City the closest when they accumulated 59 from the same number of fixtures back in 2017/18, when they won the title at a canter.

In the entire 2011/12 season, the Reds only collected 52 points, finishing eighth, while Spurs came fourth with 69.

After that achievement was surpassed, the Reds are well in the driving seat for their main aim, the Premier League title, but will also have their eye on beating a few records in the process.

These nine records are in Klopp's side's sights as they look to maintain their incredible form.

1. Most home wins

Three teams (Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City) have won 18 out of 19 (in 2005/06, 2010/11 and 2018/19 respectively).

The Reds have a 100 per cent record at Anfield so far this season but winning every single home game for an entire campaign would be quite the achievement.

2. Most away wins

Manchester City hold this record at an incredible 16 victories, accumulated during 2017/18.

The Reds have won nine away fixtures so far, including their win over Spurs, so need to win another eight if they are to break the record.

They have nine away matches left this campaign.

3. Most total victories

Liverpool can afford to not win four matches and they would still beat this record.

Manchester City won 32 games in each of their last two seasons, so need to win 13 of their last 17 matches if that is to be bettered.

4. Most points in a campaign

The Reds could win 112 points this season if they continue to win week after week, but only require 101 to beat Manchester City's record of 100.

That means the Reds could lose three times and draw once and would still beat that record.

5. Successive home wins

Manchester City are once again the leaders in this regard, though Liverpool are only a couple of games short.

City managed 20 successive home wins, ending that run in 2012.

The Reds face Manchester United at Anfield next, followed by matches against Southampton and West Ham United.

6. Successive wins

The draw at Old Trafford earlier this season scuppered Liverpool's chances of beating it already this season, when they were on a run of 17 successive league wins - one short of the record which is 18.

Liverpool have now won 13 in a row having seen off Spurs, meaning another six wins are required.

7. Longest unbeaten run

Arsenal went 49 matches unbeaten, including becoming invincible during the 2003/04 campaign, eventually losing to Manchester United.

After avoiding defeat to Tottenham, the Reds need to go another 11 matches without being beaten.

That run, which includes playing at the Etihad Stadium, concludes with the home game against Aston Villa in mid-April.

8. Longest time unbeaten

If the Reds go unbeaten this season, they will also beat Arsenal's record for the number of days between defeats.

The Gunners managed 537 days between losses and the Reds have already managed more than a year.

Klopp's men will beat the record during the summer should they not be defeated before then.
