Liverpool finally got their hands on the Premier League trophy on Sunday and chiefs at Anfield are now focussed building a squad that can defend the title in the 2025-26 season

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has vowed to build an 'even better' squad next season and has revealed that they're 'already busy' in the transfer market. Werner, who's also chairman of the Boston Red Sox, was at Anfield on Sunday to watch the Reds lift the Premier League trophy.

It was a remarkable title-winning season, despite manager Arne Slot only adding one player to the squad which he inherited from legendary boss Jurgen Klopp. But this summer will be different, with Liverpool already heavily linked with two players.

Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, who look set to cost more than £100million combined, are in talks to join the Reds. Slot has remained tight-lipped on Liverpool's transfer business but Werner has offered more of a clear hint on their renewed ambitions.

"It's already busy," the Anfield chief said. "We go again. It never gets old, winning. We owe it to all of our supporters to bring back a team even better next season."

Werner, 75, also paid tribute to the 'extraordinary' Slot after his stellar first season in charge. "We obviously had high hopes for this season but he has been an extraordinary coach," he added.

"I think there have been three coaches who have won the Premier League in their first season and Arne is one of them. He is just an extraordinary leader. He's authentic, he's not trying to be anyone else. The team was an extraordinarily good team but he brought the best out of them."

His comments come after Slot told Sky Sports amid the title celebrations: "We know, the club, Richard [Hughes, sporting director], the ownership, we are all aligned on what we are trying to achieve.

"It is already very, very positive that we kept Mo [Salah] and Virgil [van Dijk] and a few others that we are trying to sign look positive."

In his post-match press conference, the Dutchman was asked about getting signings in early. "We just want good players and ideally you sign them as soon as you can," Slot replied. "But it's not always easy to sign good players, let alone to sign them early in the window.

"But this club doesn't start working from today onwards. There is so much hard work being done behind the scenes already this season to find out which targets we have and try to sign them.

"I have all the confidence that if we've addressed the right player that we try to sign that player. But let's see when that's going to happen and if that's going to happen because I'm very happy with the squad we already have."
