Talks between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen over a move to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield continue as new report makes Germany star 10th most valuable player in the world
Liverpool remain engaged in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over their desire to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield. And while the Bundesliga side are looking for about £125m to sell their best player, a new report says that the Germany playmaker should really be worth £103m.
CIES’ Football Observatory says that Wirtz is currently rated the 10th most valuable player in the world according to their metrics, with Manchester City ’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea ’s Cole Palmer among those ahead of him.
But that will not stop Liverpool from pushing ahead with plans to bring Wirtz to Anfield as the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Two bids have already been rejected with another set to follow and the relationship between the clubs is strong after a deal was already sealed for full-back Jeremie Frimpong to head to Merseyside as the replacement for Real Madrid ’s new man Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool are also closing in on a move for the Bournemouth full back Milos Kerkez that could cost £50m as part of a hectic start to the transfer window for Arne Slot ’s Premier League champions.
CIES’ report puts Barcelona phenom Lamine Yamal as the most valuable player in the world at an eye-watering £338m, followed by Haaland on £201m and England’s Real star Jude Bellingham on £197m.
He is followed by Kylian Mbappe, who is valued at £162.1m, with Jamal Musiala next on £130m, then Pedri on £121m and Real's Vinicius Jr rated at £110m ahead of £106.5m Palmer. Julian Alvarez is next with £106m before Wirtz completes the top 10.
Arsenal's Bukayo Saka is the next Premier League player on £97m with Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers (£96.2m) immediately behind. There are 41 Premier League players in the top 100 - with surprise inclusions including Liverpool flop Darwin Nunez (£51.5m) and Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen (£54m).
Wirtz is currently with Germany's squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League semi-final against Portugal in Munich tonight. Spain take on France in the other tie tomorrow evening.
The full list of CIES' top 100 most valuable players can be read here. Their valuations take in a host of factors including age with no player over 26 included in the list.

It is not the price tag but who is heaping the price tag from behind is Bayern Munich and German FA. LFC should pull this off and next season go for Jamal Musiala. This Kaiser will learn their lesson.
