Liverpool news: Van Dijk issues contract update as Slot makes Salah claim

The Jurgen Klopp era isn't over yet, but Liverpool can't help but look towards the future.

Klopp's men got back to winning ways on Sunday with a mostly dominant 4-2 victory at home to Tottenham, a result which narrowly keeps them in the Premier League title race. A win for Manchester City on Saturday would end Liverpool's hopes, as the Reds don't play until next Monday away to Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa.

In the meantime, there's plenty of work to do off the pitch, with Arne Slot's appointment edging closer to being confirmed. Klopp might be asked to hold the exit door open, too, as a number of high-profile players could be set to follow him.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Anfield.

Van Dijk: No update on contract talks

Virgil van Dijk has revealed that although he plans to be part of Liverpool's post-Jurgen Klopp 'transition', the Reds captain isn't any closer to signing a new deal. Van Dijk, 32, is on course to be out of contract in June 2025, meaning that Liverpool would have to sell him this summer in order to recoup a significant fee.

The Dutchman cast doubt over his future at Anfield in the wake of Klopp's departure but has since rowed back on those comments. Speaking after Sunday's win, Van Dijk explained: "The focus is now on the last two (matches of the season) and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that."

Slot praises Salah's "great" goal

Soon-to-be-announced Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised Mohamed Salah for his "great" goal against Tottenham, having watched the early part of the game from Holland. 31-year-old Salah is another Reds player who's contract expires in 2025, with his future also under the microscope.

Slot, though, is still focussed on Feyenoord and can only observe. "Just the first goal, a great goal," the Dutch coach told a press conference following his side's 5-0 thrashing of PEC Zwolle. "It was a good win from Liverpool. If the official confirmation is there, and I go there, I will watch a lot of games from them."

Nunez fuels exit talk

Darwin Nunez has deleted all posts of him in a Liverpool shirt from his Instagram account, fuelling speculation of a potential departure this summer. The £85million striker's poor form has led to him falling out of favour under Klopp and receiving criticism from supporters.

Fans have noticed that there're now only images from Nunez's personal life and him playing for Uruguay active on his Instagram account. It's been theorised that the reported Barcelona target has made the decision after receiving online abuse.
