Liverpool will be without Premier League-record signing Alexander Isak for the foreseeable future after the striker suffered a fibula fracture in Saturday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Isak opened the scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 win, finishing coolly to round off a slick team move. However he injured himself in the process of scoring, going down under a heavy challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Van.
The Liverpool striker was immediately in visible discomfort and was unable to lift himself to his feet to celebrate the goal. He was quickly attended to by the team’s medical staff but limped off the field soon after. He was unable to continue and is now set for a long spell on the sideline.
How long is Alexander Isak out for?
Liverpool confirmed that the 26-year-old underwent surgery on “an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture” on Monday. The operation was described as a success but the club has not put a timeframe on his return.
The Times reports that Isak may need around three months to fully recover, comprising healing, rehabilitation and a gradual return to full-contact practice and games.
For context, Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle during the summer’s Club World Cup. Musiala’s injury took place in July and he had to wait until early December before returning to team practice. He will hope to be back in contention for competitive games in January, six months after the initial injury.
Liverpool will hope that Isak’s injury is less severe and the recovery is quicker. But the Arne Slot faces of the prospect of missing the No. 9 for much of the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

So unfortunate the injury is coming this time. Isak have started showing glimpses of why he was bought with such huge amount, but now he will be out for months. That’s tough!
Good morning my comrade, I appreciate your comment. God bless you

Injury has already destroyed Chiesa!!!! He is no longer considered a top talent who can win you something great. May God 🙏🏻 help him and he doesn't meet the same fate as Chiesa!!!

Mucky van De van not going for the ball he deliberately going his ankle, that the reality. Micky escaped from punishment from the referee... This is absolutely abysmal mentality of micky. Anyway what goes around will come around, just wait...
