Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday and Stephen Warnock fears his old club could be punished by PSG if their performance levels do not increase
Stephen Warnock has warned Liverpool that they could be thrashed 10-0 by Paris Saint-Germain if they play as poorly as they did in their defeat away at Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Arne Slot's men were sunk by a brace from Danny Welbeck, whose goals sandwiched a Milos Kerkez strike. The loss means Liverpool have taken just one point from their last three Premier League games, two of which were against strugglers Wolves and Tottenham.
Defeat on the south coast comes just days after the Reds booked a Champions League quarter-final date with PSG courtesy of a superb victory over Galatasaray.
But Warnock fears his old club could be on the end of a hiding at the hands of the reigning European champions if they play as they did at Brighton, saying the performance was "very, very worrying".
"If they go and play like that in Paris it could be 10-0," he said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "That's how bad Liverpool were today. Brighton weren't clinical and tried to walk it in, but PSG will be clinical. It's very, very worrying for Liverpool."
Rob Green also stuck the boot in on Slot's side after saying defeat on the south coast was a "backwards step" after their big win in Europe in midweek.
"You just don't know what you are getting from this team," the former England goalkeeper said. "The spine of the team is not there. They are looking around saying 'what's going on?'. They can't find an answer."
With seven league games still to go this season, Liverpool have already lost the most Premier League matches (10) in a campaign since the 2015-16 one. And Slot conceded that it is down to him to 'find answers' in a bid to ensure Liverpool finish the season strong.
He said: "Of course. It says a few things. First of all, it says what a great team Liverpool have had in the last 10 years and a great manager as well. I could come and tell you all the reasons why we've lost this season 10 times.
"One of them is late goals. Today sums it all up in terms of our injury problems - to go without three great goalscorers [Ekitike, Isak and Salah] is never helpful for any team.
"But it's not my job to make excuses. My job is to find answers and that's what I tried to do again today."
