Trent Alexander-Arnold was right among Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations but his future with the Reds remains uncertain amid links of a free transfer to Real Madrid

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn't yet decided on a move to Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold, 26, is on course to become a free agent when his contract with Liverpool expires on June 30.

Team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah were in the same boat before signing new two-year deals with the Reds earlier this month. But Alexander-Arnold still looks set to leave Anfield and Real have long been considered the favourites to sign him on a free transfer.

It was reported in March that the England international had agreed a five-year contract worth in excess of £220,000 per week. But amid Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations on Sunday, Gakpo hinted that a deal isn't done.

Discussing the club's ambitions to retain the league title next season by strengthening Arne Slot's squad, the Dutchman told LFC TV: "Now with Mo and Virgil staying, and hopefully Trent as well, they can keep building."

Gakpo was speaking long after the final whistle in the Reds' rampant 5-1 win against Tottenham which sealed the Premier League title. Liverpool only needed a draw but came from behind to hammer their opponents in front of a jubilant Anfield crowd.

A number of players were made available for interviews post-match, but not Alexander-Arnold. The Reds right-back had been coy when asked about his future the previous weekend, having scored the winning goal against Leicester.

"I have said all season that I am not going to speak on my situation. I am not going to go into the details," Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports. "But days like today are always special. Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, winning titles - they are special moments for me and I am glad to do my part."

Slot said on the topic: "The fans of Liverpool, everyone who watches football for the last five, six or seven years, knows he is an incredible full-back, has been an incredible full-back for this football club and let's see what the future brings."

The Liverpool boss added: "Every time he plays and trains with us he shows his commitment. He's worked so hard to be back already and the moment he is on the pitch he shows me what a great football player he is and how much he's involved in us trying to achieve our goals this season. He's worked so hard during the whole season and now in his rehab to be back with the team again."
