Liverpool to pay Florian Wirtz's parents eye-watering fee in £116m transfer deal

Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool in a record £116million deal as the Reds strengthen their squad as they attempt to retain their Premier League title in Arne Slot's second season

Liverpool are set to cough up £8.55million to Florian Wirtz's parents as they move towards cementing the blockbuster signing. The German international is expected to soon complete a transfer to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen.

Wirtz is set to sign a contract with the Reds until 2030 as Liverpool complete a British record transfer. Arne Slot's side are stumping up £116million including add-ons and the 22-year-old will become the club's second highest paid player, behind Mohamed Salah.

But, with a medical expected to take place later this week, Wirtz will not be the only member of his family to benefit. The Leverkusen star has seen his career managed by his parents rather than an agency.

Wirtz's parents Hans and Karin have joined him when he travelled to England last month, and have negotiated on his behalf. And they will take a healthy cut in the deal as a result for their role.

Sport Bild, per Sport Witness, claim they will see €10m (£8.55m) over the course of their son's contract with Liverpool. Wirtz is set to undergo his medical on Friday after taking a quick holiday following his time on international duty for Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

The playmaker will follow in the footsteps of Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong in making the move, and shared a picture of the duo on a boat. It's been a busy summer to so far at Anfield with the club having said goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher. Wirtz's signing is set to be followed by the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Talks between Liverpool and Bournemouth continue with the Cherries having already added left-sided defender Adrien Truffert from Rennes in a £14.5m deal.

Arne Slot hinted at the end of the season that the Reds would be looking to move quickly. "We just want good players and ideally you sign them as soon as you can," he said.

"But it's not always easy to sign good players, let alone to sign them early in the window. But this club doesn't start working from today onwards.

"There is so much hard work being done behind the scenes already this season to find out which targets we have and try to sign them. I have all the confidence that if we've addressed the right player that we try to sign that player."
