The January transfer window is now open and it could prove to be a decisive one for Liverpool.
The Reds are the favourites to win the Premier League title this season but some additions could help them finally get over the line. A number of names including Alexander Isak and Dani Olmo have already been linked with moves to Anfield.
Away from signings, Liverpool will be trying their hardest to retain a number of their current stars. Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah can all engage in talks with foreign clubs from today.
Liverpool will be desperate to keep the trio - albeit the England star continues to be linked with Real Madrid. Take a look at all of the latest news and rumours from Merseyside.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold could potentially be on the way out of Anfield sooner rather than later, the same might not be true of the Reds’ other two contract rebels. According to reports, Van Dijk and Salah are closing in on extended stays.
As per The Athletic, the duo are expected to come to the same conclusion and sign new two-year deals at Anfield. Agreements have yet to be reached and an announcement is some way off but talks are ongoing and there is optimism of the pair staying.
Each player has been linked with an exit. Recent reports from Italy suggested that Inter Milan were interested in Van Dijk, while Salah has constantly been on the agenda of a host of Saudi clubs.
Ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes that Newcastle’s Alexander Isak would be a perfect signing for a host of Premier League sides - including Arne Slot’s table-toppers.
Speaking to Isak after the Swedish international scored vs Man United, he said : "Alexander, I absolutely adore you. I think you're a fantastic player and if I had £150m, I'd pay it to have you at any club."
Isak has been in stunning form this season, scoring 13 goals. He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his St James’ Park deal.
Liverpool have joined a clutch of Premier League sides in the race for Dani Olmo as his Barcelona future hangs in the balance. The Spanish giants signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig in the summer.
But they have failed to register him for the second half of the campaign, meaning he could potentially leave for nothing in January. As per Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are lining up to sign him alongside both Manchester clubs.
Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are also considering him. Olmo, 26, has made 15 appearances for Barcelona so far this season, scoring six goals.
However, a deal could be tricky with the player's agent insisting he will stay at the Nou Camp for the season and isn't considering other offers.
