Liverpool have been told that Manchester City wantaway Kyle Walker would be a perfect signing after his transfer request.
City boss Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that the 34-year-old had asked to leave the club after a trophy-laden spell. As it stands, Walker remains at the club, with AC Milan pursuing his signature the strongest.
But ex-Liverpool star Dean Saunders has urged his former side to make a move for the England star. He believes that he could be an ideal replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold - the Liverpool star constantly linked with Real Madrid as his contract ticks down.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Saunders said: “Do you want me to chuck a spanner in the works? It looks like Trent is leaving; why don’t Liverpool sign him [Walker]?
“There you go, he’d be a good signing for Liverpool if Trent goes. I know they’ve got the young kid [Conor Bradley] coming through…by the way, he’s still quick, and if Trent is leaving…”
Saunders then insisted that Walker is still one of the most accomplished right-backs in the Premier League. He added: “He’d get in Spurs’ team, he’d get in Liverpool’s team, he’d get in Man United’s team, he’d get in Chelsea ’s team. Would he get in Arsenal ’s team? He’d get in Arsenal’s team. He’s better than [Ben] White.”
While Liverpool might need a new right-back sooner rather than later, it seems very unlikely that they would pursue a move for Walker. As it stands, they are rebuffing Real Madrid’s attempts to sign Alexander-Arnold, while they have Conor Bradley as back up.
They have however conducted business concerning a right-back over the past few days. Young defender Calvin Ramsay has joined Scottish side Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Walker’s future is still to be decided, although Guardiola seemed sure that he would leave when speaking over the weekend. The Spaniard said: "Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad at the end of his career.
“In his [Walker's] mind, he would like to explore it, to go to another country, to play the last years [somewhere else] for many reasons. For that reason, I prefer playing other players whose mind is here."
Man City are back in action in midweek as they take on Brentford and it remains to be seen whether Walker remains out of the side. Liverpool in the meantime take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday evening.

Somebody should please give Saunders his morning dosage. This is obviously old age speaking! Why will Liverpool want a finished product? Which Liverpool team will Walker walk into as is? How is he even better right now than Dalot? Not to talk of Ben White? So he's accomplished, no doubt, but we've seen that old age is catching up with him. You now think Liverpool is best for him?
