Chiesa reportedly rejects Fenerbahce approach with Italian giants looming

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa is being scouted by several Serie A sides this summer, and has rejected approaches from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

The Italian international found first-team action hard to come by last season under manager Arne Slot, who saw him as a player who could make an impact off the bench rather than being in the starting eleven each week. 

Slot excluded the Italian winger from the club’s pre-season tour, confirming he’s no longer in the Reds’ plans, and now Calciomercato reports that Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have made a move for the winger who scored two goals and bagged one assist in 14 appearances last season.

Chiesa, who joined from Juventus for around €15 million, is said to have rejected the approach from Mourinho and the chance to become the latest of many big names to head to the Super Lig.

In June, he spoke about his first season with Liverpool and revealed his slight frustrations with not playing regularly. 

"At the beginning, I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, and then there was the injury. 

"Up until the match against PSG, Liverpool was ahead of everyone, in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, and among the favourites in the Champions League, which PSG won," Chiesa, speaking to Corriere dello Sport, continued. 

"Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me, as well as the club? The desire to play was there, but I put it aside. I understood the situation. I put aside every form of individualism." 

The 27-year-old is in his prime and is wanted by the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Atalanta and a range of other Italian sides who see Chiesa as an underrated gem in a Liverpool side who are busy trying to sign Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who would displace Chiesa in the side even further.
