Liverpool's initial bid for Alexander Isak reportedly rejected by Newcastle

Liverpool have submitted their first official bid for Alexander Isak, which has been immediately rejected by Newcastle United, according to reports in the media.

Isak has been training alone at the facilities of his former club, Real Sociedad, after he did not join Newcastle on their pre-season tour of South Korea, and the club claimed he had a “thigh injury” in recent weeks to try and explain his absence.

The Swedish international’s 23 goals in the top-flight last season saw him become one of the leading strikers in the world, and now, according to journalist David Ornstein, the Reds have submitted an ambitious bid for the forward that has been denied.

“EXCL: Newcastle reject official bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak. Initial approach informal - now firm #LFC offer & turned down. #NUFC suggested new deal with 2026 release clause + senior team-mates pushed 25yo to stay but wants move,” Ornstein posted.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also revealed more details on the deal that would become one of the biggest transfers in British history if it does go through.

“Liverpool opening bid for Alexander Isak was worth £120m package plus add-ons.

“Newcastle rejected as they won’t open doors at least until finding a replacement… and it’s not guaranteed, at this stage.

“Isak insists with Newcastle on his clear desire to join Liverpool.”

Having already brought in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a mammoth £116m fee, manager Arne Slot is not afraid to splash the cash even further as he reaches into his deep pockets once more.

However, as reported, it does not matter how much money Liverpool throw at Isak; Newcastle must find a replacement first.
