According to Sport, Atletico Madrid full-back Llorente updated his social media to respond to external criticism of his lifestyle and views, stating that he is no longer affected by it.
Llorente has always been one of LaLiga's most controversial players, but the controversy doesn't stem from football; it comes from his alternative lifestyle and some of the statements he has made in recent years, which have sparked considerable discussion online.
Chemtrails, conspiracy theories during Spain's nationwide blackout, circadian rhythms, colored glasses, sunbathing without protection, grounding… Llorente has become a representative figure for this alternative lifestyle and way of thinking, but some of his views have also been refuted or questioned by medical professionals.
Llorente stated: "At this point, to be honest, I really don't care what people say about me or what they say behind my back. I stopped caring about criticism many years ago. I only care about what the people who are truly involved in my life think." He added: "Every criticism only helps my message spread a little further."
Llorente said he is pleased that "more and more people are starting to question things, ask, investigate, and no longer unconditionally accept ideas just because they have always been taught that way." However, he also admitted that he doesn't expect everyone to follow him blindly.
Llorente stated that he "doesn't need to do this" because he "can already support himself," but still feels it's necessary to express his thoughts. He believes some people are confused, seeking answers, and need to hear different perspectives, seeing this as a social responsibility.
Llorente also challenged all those who wish to criticize him, stating that their criticism will not affect him: "You can keep talking, I don't care at all. My life will not revolve around your opinions, and honestly, you are insignificant in my life." The Atletico Madrid player also recalled his experience of starting the World Cup as Luis de la Fuente's first-choice full-back, only to eventually lose his spot to Pedro Porro.
Llorente concluded by saying: "This is just the beginning." He made it clear that as long as this lifestyle works for him, he will continue to adhere to his life philosophy, regardless of what the media, critics, or anyone else who wants to talk about him says.
Llorente has received support from several well-known figures. Ferran Torres commented, "You said it very well," while Álex Baena replied to the post with "Freehuman." Other teammates and fans also expressed their support.
