Lovren took revenge against Ramos for Salah: He had to pay for what he had done

Dejan Lovren has admitted that he went out seeking revenge against Sergio Ramos when his Croatia faced Spain in November 2018.

The Spaniard had injured Mohamed Salah during that year's Champions League final, which Real Madrid won against Liverpool, and Lovren, then Salah's teammate, was left annoyed.

When the pair of defenders met while representing their respective countries, Lovren saw it as an opportunity to level the scores.

"It's possible that I hit him deliberately after he injured Salah," Lovren said to Egyptian television network Sada El Balad.

"Luka Modric tried to reduce the tension between Ramos and me.

"I hit him with my elbow and told him that we were level.

"I respect Ramos as a player and what he does for his team, but on the other hand he behaves in a way that I don't like and he harms players.

"I don't want to make a big story, but I think Ramos injured my friend Salah deliberately, so it was time for him to pay for what he had done."

Croatia won that game 3-2.
