Lyon 1-0 Juventus: Ronaldo fires blank as Sarri's side stunned by underdogs

Lucas Tousart scored the only goal as Lyon secured a slender 1-0 win over Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

Maurizio Sarri's side were desperately poor in the opening stages and deservedly fell behind in the 31st minute when Tousart found the net for the first time in the Champions League this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo was unsurprisingly Juve's biggest threat throughout, the Portuguese superstar clipping narrowly wide in the opening period, while Paulo Dybala had a goal ruled out for offside three minutes from time.

Yet under-fire Lyon boss Rudi Garcia will be delighted with how his side protected their lead and knows they will need to put in a similarly robust defensive display in Turin if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo cuts inside Dubois before dinking in a cross that deflects over Lopes and towards the back post, where Cuadrado stretches desperately to tap it into an empty net, missing it by just a matter of inches.

What a start for the French club! Auoar makes an enterprising run down the left flank towards the byline, before cutting back a dangerous pass into the six-yard box, where Tousart is unmarked to steer it into the top corner!

Ronaldo almost responds immediately as he powers away on the counter-attack and inside Denayer, before curling a shot from 20 yards a few yards wide of the far post.

Juventus surrender possession in their own third and Toko Ekambi scrambles onto the loose pass before shuffling past Bonucci and into the box where he hammers a powerful effort just over at the near post!

Juventus slowly work an intricate move that ends with Alex Sandro clipping in a delicate cross that drifts into the path of Dybala who slams a first-time shot inches wide from close range!

85' Ronaldo falls in the box but ref says no penalty!

Juventus howl for a penalty after Ronaldo falls in the area under pressure from Denayer following a cross from Dybala, but the referee and VAR remain unmoved.  

88' Dybala's goal ruled out for offside!

Bentancur plays a delightful, incisive reverse pass through to Dybala, who takes a touch inside before slamming a finish beyond Lopes. 

However, the linesman had raised his flag and it transpires that Dybala was comfortably offside!

There's a scramble in the area after a cross from Alex Sandro and Bruno Guimares appears to pull Dybala down in the area! Once again though, the referee waves play on.
