Ligue 1 side Lyon had to come from behind against Zenit St Petersburg in Group G at the Groupama Stadium.
Zenit, who won the Russian Premier League last season, took a first-half lead when Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun finished neatly to score the first goal in this season's Champions League.
But Lyon responded soon after the interval - Memphis Depay won and then scored a penalty in the 51st minute, and yet despite heavy pressure from the home side late on the spoils were shared.
