According to Sport, Málaga officially announced the departure of defender Víctor García, whose contract expired on June 30.
A cross that left its mark
Víctor García departs after 77 official matches for Málaga across one season in Primera Federación and two seasons in Segunda División, providing 7 assists in total. One of his most unforgettable moments came in Tarragona, when his cross led to Antoñito Cordero's goal, helping the team secure promotion from Segunda División.
Last season, the 32-year-old's playing time decreased significantly, and he was largely phased out of the rotation by the campaign's end, playing only about 58 minutes over the final three months. Nevertheless, he continued to provide valuable experience to the squad and fulfilled his responsibilities.
Málaga's official announcement
Víctor García joined Málaga three years ago to strengthen the left flank. During the 2023/24 season, he was a regular starter, appearing in 35 matches total, including 29 in Segunda División, 2 in the Copa del Rey, and 4 in the promotion play-offs.
He played a crucial role in the dramatic promotion push in Tarragona. His cross in the 122nd minute led directly to Antoñito Cordero's goal, securing the team's promotion to La Liga.
In the 2024/25 season, Víctor made 21 appearances in Segunda División, starting in 19 of them, plus one Copa del Rey match. In the 2025/26 season just concluded, he featured in approximately 20 league matches, helping Málaga achieve its second promotion during his tenure, bringing his total appearances across all competitions to 77.
The team's return to La Liga marked a fitting conclusion to his successful spell at the club. Víctor's contributions will remain part of this historic period, and Málaga fans will always remember his role in the two promotions achieved during his time here.
Throughout these three years, Víctor García demonstrated the hard work, unity, and sacrifice that define Málaga Club. The club wishes him the very best in his future endeavors. Víctor, this will always be your home!
