JOSE MOURINHO has been contacted by Real Madrid about a return to the Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants are currently on their second manager this season and struggling in fifth - ten points behind leaders Barcelona - after a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.

Now, President Florentino Perez wants Mourinho, 55, back and the club have contacted his representatives.

Perez appointed the Portuguese back in 2010 and he went on to win the Copa del Rey and beat Pep Guardiola’s all conquering Barcelona side to win La Liga in 2012.

Mourinho left the following season after a dressing-room revolt but Perez did not want him to go.

The pair have remained on good terms ever since.

Now, Perez believes Mourinho is the man to revive the club’s fortunes, despite his recent demise at Manchester United.

The Special One has been in high demand since being sacked on December 18.

He has had four job offers - including a return to Benfica, who he managed briefly in 2000 - which he turned down.

As it is, Mourinho cannot accept an offer at the moment as he is still trying to sort out his pay off with United.

Mourinho is due a £15million settlement and his agent Jorge Mendes has asked for a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to sort out the final details of the separation.

The ex-Chelsea chief spent two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford - winning the League Cup and Europa League.

He also guided the club to their highest league finish since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club when they came runners-up to Manchester City last season.

But his constant moans about the strength of his squad, fall-outs with senior players and a downturn in results led to his sacking.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since taken the job in caretaker role and won his first five matches.
