For the former French midfielder of Celta Vigo and Real Madrid, the Barça youth player is "a talent who should be allowed to enjoy his game, not be beaten down."

Lamine Yamal isn't participating in the Club World Cup because FC Barcelona didn't qualify, but even though he isn't playing, the 17-year-old Barça youth player remains a universal reference for those following the competition currently underway in the United States. With the Ballon d'Or , which will be awarded in Paris on September 22nd, approaching, Lamine is a favorite thanks to his outstanding season, and many are already backing his candidacy. Others, however, are backing him for the future, arguing that due to his youth, he'll have time to accumulate all the awards. This is the case of Claude Makelele , the 52-year-old former French midfielder who played for Celta Vigo and Real Madrid, among other clubs. "Right now I would give this Ballon d'Or to Denbélé, because Lamine still needs time, we have to let him triumph with his football, with his talent, because he is going to win more than one Ballon d'Or," he said in statements to El Chiringuito .

The former midfielder who ran the most for Real Madrid's Galacticos team said that the best thing to do with Lamine is "not to overwork him, let him enjoy himself; he's a kid."

If he wins the Ballon d'Or after turning 18, Lamine Yamal would be the youngest player ever to be crowned by France Football, the French media outlet that has awarded the most prestigious and traditional individual award in the world of football since 1956, and the most coveted by football professionals themselves.
