Fernando Llorente scored towards the end to get Tottenham past Manchester City on away goals in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Match Report
Raheem Sterling was denied by VAR in injury-time as Manchester City's quadruple hopes came to an end in the most dramatic of circumstances against Tottenham in a classic Champions League quarter-final tie.
The England international thought he had a hat-trick at the death at the Etihad Stadium, but a review showed Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up as Tottenham were beaten 4-3 on the night and progressed 4-4 via the away goals rule.
Spurs had already been assisted by VAR when Fernando Llorente bundled in from close range 17 minutes from time, which ultimately booked a semi-final date with Ajax.
A chaotic first half had City 3-2 up at the break, as Sterling wiped out Son Heung-min's brace then scored the hosts' third following a fortunate Bernardo Silva equaliser.
Aguero's brilliant strike had seemingly put City into the semis before VAR deemed Llorente's apparent handball to be accidental and Pep Guardiola's men saw wild celebrations for Sterling's last-gasp effort curtailed in sensational scenes.
Match Events
4' GOAL! Man City 1-0 Tottenham (Sterling)
Sterling's incredible season continues as he is allowed to cut inside on his right foot by Trippier and he curls the ball out of Lloris' reach.
That is a superb strike from Sterling and the perfect start for his side.
7' GOAL! Man City 1-1 Tottenham (Son)
Less than three minutes after falling behind, Son gets on the end of a loose ball eight yards from goal and fires it past Ederson.
The Man City keeper really should be keeping it out, though, allowing it to squirm under his body.
10' GOAL! Man City 1-2 Tottenham (Son)
The visitors open up a two-goal lead as Son curls the ball past Ederson from 17 yards.
It is a brilliant move from Tottenham, with Eriksen knocking the ball across to Son, who found the top corner of the net.
11' GOAL! Man City 2-2 Tottenham (Bernardo)
Eleven minutes played of the second leg and it is 2-2! Bernardo Silva's shot takes a deflection off Rose and lands in the bottom corner of the net.
Aguero picked out Bernardo Silva and the Portugal attacker's poked finish found the bottom corner of the net via a telling touch off Rose.
21' GOAL! Man City 3-2 Tottenham (Sterling)
De Bruyne plays the ball across goal towards the back post and Sterling is waiting for one of his trademark finishes. What a game this has been.
De Bruyne made a yard of space down the right and was able to pick out an unmarked Sterling at the back post.
59' GOAL! Man City 4-2 Tottenham (Aguero)
De Bruyne works his magic by carrying the ball forward, skipping past Wanyama as though he isn't there, before playing in Aguero.
The angle is not exactly on the Argentina striker's side, but he thumps it past Lloris at his near post. City now lead outright for the first time in the tie.
73' GOAL! Man City 4-3 Tottenham (Llorente)
The corner is swung into the six-yard box and Llorente gets on the end of it. The ball appears to hit a mixture of his arm and hip so it goes to a VAR check.
Trippier's corner caused some panic in the City box and Llorente profited to swing this crazy tie Tottenham's way.
90+3' GOAL DISALLOWED! Sterling's goal ruled out for offside
Huge moment as Sterling's late strike is ruled out by VAR!

Imagine a player getting a hattrick of assist and his side still can't win. How fun and cruel it was to watch Pep, the players and three fans celebrating only to have the goal taken away. And to think people are against VAR. City has some the worst fans ever! They don't know how to create intense atmosphere. I was bringing Tottenham and it came through.

The most expensive player in the Tottenham squad was Moussa Sissoko, who cost Β£30m. They were also without Harry Kane. Manchester City had 12 players in their 18-man squad that cost Β£30m+. What a job Mauricio Pochettino has done.

This is probably one of the best matches I've ever seen. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat each time. I cant believe Spurs collected such an unlikely win. MOTM has to be Son, the 2nd most dangerous Korean. Am I the only one who thinks Spurs are better without their penalty merchant? What a fight, now Spurs face Ajax and Pool face Barca, UCL this year is really something else. Me trying to figure out how City didnt make it to the semi finals....

Tottenham has reached the semi-final of the European Cup/Champions League for just the second time, last doing so in 1961-62 under Bill Nicholson.

Spurs are the seventh different English club to reach the semi-final of the Champions League since it was rebranded, meaning England has now had more unique semi-finalists than any other nation (Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd). Pride.
