Manchester City were 6-0 winners over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, thanks partly to a strange penalty decision.
Match Events
13'GOAL! Man City 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (David Silva)
GOAL! Bernardo Silva plays a pass to the right wing for Mahrez, who twists and turns in front of Ismaily, buying time before he centres a pass to David Silva to tap home the first goal of the match! Less than 15 minutes into the match and the home side have the lead!
24'Penalty Goal! Man City 2-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Gabriel Jesus)
PENALTY TO MANCHESTER CITY AND IT’S A SHOCKING DECISION! Sterling is played through on goal by a wonderful Fernandinho pass, and the forward goes to kick the ball, only catching turf. The referee chooses to award a penalty, as he seems to believe that Matvyenko made a challenge on Sterling. That’s an appalling decision and the away side are extremely unfortunate!
Jesus makes no mistake from the spot, and he sends Pyatov the wrong way before rolling it into the bottom corner! 2-0 Manchester City!
48'GOAL! Man City 3-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Sterling)
GOAL! A fantastic solo goal for Sterling, who receives a pass from Zinchenko in central midfield and uses his blistering pace to get through the challenges of both Maycon and Kovalenko before entering the penalty area and curling a shot into the top corner!
72'Penalty Goal! Man City 4-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Gabriel Jesus)
PENALTY TO CITY FOR THE SECOND TIME TONIGHT! It’s a clear penalty as Bernardo Silva plays David Silva into the penalty area, and Stepanenko goes to ground quickly, sliding in but missing the ball completely. Manchester City have a chance to go 4-0 up!
84'GOAL! Man City 5-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Mahrez)
GOAL! A counter-attack, started by Jesus is kept moving by Gundogan who receives a pass in stride before lofting it to the right-hand side for Mahrez. After controlling the aerial ball with a deft touch, he slots it past Pyatov from an acute angle!
92'GOAL! Man City 6-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Gabriel Jesus)
IT’S A HAT-TRICK FOR JESUS WHO MAKES IT 6-0! Mahrez dispossesses Alan Patrick in midfield and immediately passes it forward for Jesus. Pyatov comes rushing off his line and the Brazil international has the presence of mind to dink it over the keeper! More misery for Shakhtar!
Match Report
Gabriel Jesus netted a hat-trick as Manchester City powered to a 6-0 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk but they will have to wait to book their place in the last 16 after Hoffenheim netted a late equaliser at Lyon in Group F's other fixture.
The hosts were in total control as they eased to a comfortable win at the Etihad Stadium, giving City brief respite from the series of allegations about their financial conduct that have been published by German magazine Der Spiegel this week, upon which the club have declined to comment.

before u start hating on sterling, the ref gave him the penalty which he didn't even appeal for it but he could have fair played it but not everybody is class. one day he will learn football is not all about goals and he should have been humble. well played man city

1. David Silva has scored three goals in the 2018-19 Champions League, his best ever tally in a single season in the competition 2. Of current Premier League players, only Sergio Aguero (14) has been involved in more goals in all competitions this season than Raheem Sterling (13 - 7 goals, 6 assists). 3. Gabriel Jesus is the first player to score two penalties in a Champions League game for an English club since Wayne Rooney did so for Manchester United against Otelul Galati in October 2011

Man City didn't even have to break a sweat, Shaktar Donetsk done all the work for them by having no direction, only having one phase despite possession. The incredible lack of understanding of Shaktar's football was astounding. It's difficult to appreciate that they are reported to be 8 points clear at the top of their top Ukraine league, which say's a lot about Ukrainian football. Man City are indeed a great side, but they aren't being stretched so they too are hindered in their development. Man City's Football is good but not yet great, there's plenty more levels to attain for City, they are very beatable.
