Manchester City have made the decision to dismiss manager Gareth Taylor just days out from the Women League Cup final.
The club announced that they have 'parted ways' with the 52-year-old on Monday evening.
Nick Cushing will return to the club on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
The news comes as somewhat of a shock with City one of just two WSL teams that are competing in all four competitions.
The Citizens sit fourth in the table, just one point outside the Champions League spots.
They have also progressed to the quarter-finals in Europe while reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup.
They have the chance to claim their first piece of silverware this Sunday when they face Chelsea in the League Cup final at Derby County's Pride Park.
Taylor was the WSL's longest serving manager prior to this announcement, having been appointed back in May 2020.
A statement from City read: 'Manchester City Women have parted ways with Head Coach Gareth Taylor.
'Taylor has a long-standing association with Manchester City, having been both a former player and having undertaken various roles within the boys' academy prior to joining MCWFC in 2020.
'He led our women's team to FA Cup and League Cup success in 2020 and 2022 respectively, before narrowly missing out on last season's WSL title on goal difference alone.
Speaking of Taylor's departure, Managing Director Charlotte O'Neill said: 'Manchester City prides itself on competing at the top of the WSL and on its outstanding record of qualifying for European competition.
'Unfortunately, results this season have so far not reached this high standard.
'With six games of the WSL campaign remaining, we believe that a change of management will breathe fresh life into our bid to ensure qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Women's Champions League.
'We would like to place on record our thanks to Gareth for all of his efforts during his many years at City.
'Our FA Cup and League Cup triumphs will remain special moments in the history of this football club. We wish him all the best for the future.'

They can sack anyone at Manchester City, but NOT Pep Guardiola huh ! Manchester City needs to RESET 🙄

Sacking pep will be a disrespect from the club, after all he has done for them. He has brought city to the lime light in Pl and Europe, taken them to the Pinnacle of football, that is the club world cup. Whenever the club gets tired of him, they should just meet with him, discuss and tell him to announce that he will be resigning and also give him a proper send off

Pep be careful myb you're next
you very stupid for saying that. just because pep is having one season difficulty so they should sack him. you are very ungraful person. you cannot compare pep to Taylor. City were Champion four in rows remember. Not everyday is christmas. sometimes thing will get tough but the one who love you will back you and will be there for you no matter what because they believe you will bounce back.City is not stupid like you. stay with the team and Pep in their worst time. Everyone go through it in life. some clubs do not win tropy but they still keep their coach. City will be champion next season and this season city will one or two trophies.
