Danny Mills warns former club Manchester City of how damaging the impact could be when Pep Guardiola finally decides to leave the club
Manchester City have been told that Pep Guardiola leaving the Etihad will be like when Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as United boss. Fergie retired back in 2013 after winning one final Premier League title.
But his departure coincided with a serious decline in United's fortunes. Since Fergie rode into the sunset, United have not been crowned English champions or come remotely close to winning the Champions League.
Guardiola is under contract at the Etihad until 2027 and will complete a decade's service before the start of next season. The Spaniard has said he has no plans to stand down - and could continue in his role until 2035. But club bosses know the Spaniard will call time on his incredible spell in charge at some stage.
And former City defender Danny Mills reckons the impact of him leaving will be similar to when Fergie left United.
"It’s going to be very difficult to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City," Mills told BetWright. "He’s brought such a unique style of play and coaching, which has been embedded in the club for almost a decade.
"The owners will have to consider whether they want to maintain that style, or move to a 'win at all costs' mentality, and totally rebrand. Up until a few seasons ago, I would've suggested Mikel Arteta as a potential replacement for Pep, but that obviously won't happen now given what he’s achieved and built at Arsenal.
"A lot depends on when Guardiola leaves the club, and who is available to replace him. "I don't think the managerial role will be in high demand - it could be considered as a lose-lose situation for whoever succeeds Pep.
"When David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson, he was never going to replicate the success of the past, but the expectation was there.
"It’s highly unlikely that anyone will be able to better Pep's achievements, so it's going to be very difficult for the club and succeeding manager."

The project of City is bigger than the stupid Pep, he delayed it, if he didn't come to City this should've the biggest project ever, the investment that is done by city's owner is massive, it supposed there's no competition for City after all investment
Then you are definitely talking out of sentiment or hatred for Pep. Do you know City still has a case in court concerning financial fairness? To spend and invest money is one a team is one thing, spending and investing right is another thing. See Liverpool this season. No club spent as Liverpool but compare them to last season. Pep is use to buying good players, yes, but not because he sees you as already-developed, no, but your potential. No matter how much he buys a player, u will always see the difference in that player from before. So when he spend, he spend because he see something in a player rather than the club depends on you. Tell me, aside Messi, which player is indispensable for Pep through his career till now?

There might be someone out there u meant to say. Tell me, in your own opinion, who can replicate him when he leaves. I'm not saying we can't see, but the probability is very low cuz his impact on football generally is beyond winning and trophies. And where u get it all wrong, was u saying without him, city would have done better. Tell how many league titles and UCL does city has before him? The overhype EPL was not proof wrong until he came and dominated for how many years? See, it's not only city will find it difficult to see his replica, football generally will miss him when he retires. I can categorically tell u, Sir Ferguson impact was mostly with MU and other teams he coaches, but Pep introduced the modern tikitak of today. What about exploitation of wingback? Common man

Arsenal truly won the lottery when Arteta was hired but even now many still underrate just how fortunate we were.. Suffering awaits City just like those before them..
So much for the winning mentality when you see a lot of success in the second place. For how many years and you believe you are finally seeing the light? It has always been in front of you.

Definitely there will be someone who can do better job than him in fact I've been saying this if it wasn't for him City should've counting more champions league trophies instead of one in 2023

All he's saying is, it will be difficult to find his replacement. Someone who will come and replicate his doings just has it was very difficult for MU to maintain that standard after Sir Alex.

FOOLS! CONSTANTLY HOPING SUPER PEP WILL LEAVE SUPER CITEH SINCE THE DAY HE ARRIVED! WISHFUL THINKING FOR ALL THOSE wanting SUPER PEP TO LEAVE! WHY WOULD SUPER PEP LEAVE A CLUB WHERE HE IS LOVED, BACKED AND FULLY SUPPORTED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE ORGANISATION 🤔 Maybe if the right international squad came along, or when he decides to retire!!! personally i hope we at MCFC get to love and appreciate the master, the best coach in the WORLD EVER! FOR ANOTHER DECADE!!! CTID 💙 💙 💙 💙

Why some fans believe that every game City plays that they will win under Pep remember this is football and he will not always get it right but as a City fan I have backed him in good and in bad times it is what it is
Well said!👏👏👏 My sentiments EXACTLY! They have not stopped suggesting SUPER PEP WILL LEAVE SINCE THE DAY HE ARRIVED!!! Personally I cannot see SUPER PEP leaving MCFC until an International Post takes his fancy, or he chooses to retire! Where else would he get the love, appreciation and backing from the owner, the board right through the whole organisation down to the fans! we love SUPER PEP AND HE LOVES THE CLUB!!! WHY WOULD HE GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!! CTID 💙 💙 💙 💙
