Manchester City could make an offer for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as early as next week.
Zubimendi was widely linked with a summer switch to City’s Premier League rivals Liverpool before eventually opting against the move at the last minute.
The Spain international dramatically changed his mind, to remain in San Sebastian, but the situation has since reportedly changed in the Basque Country.
With Liverpool out of the running, City could now be unopposed in their push for the 25-year-old, as part of a big-spending month ahead in Manchester.
Pep Guardiola is expected to make major investments in the coming weeks, in a bid to revive his struggling team, and Zubimendi would be a major coup.
Zubimendi still has a £52m release clause in his contract, which City can afford, and the club are prepared to back Guardiola to reignite their title defence in 2025 – reports from Football Insider claim an offer could be made within days.

Pep needs two hardworking midfielders who can give much needed cover to back 4, a proper left back like Davies (not and never Gvadiol again) and a proper right back to challenge ageing Walker. CB should be Captain Dias and Stones/Gvadiol. Ake and Akanji too soft and too indecisive to protect keeper and goal. He also needs to adjust his type of play, at least for now. Back 5 needs to be tougher with a no-bounce no nonsense approach, front 5 to work on counter attacks so as to leave Haaland and co. on 1 v 1 situations. Trying to pass the ball into the net will always find the box packed with defenders leaving Haaland and other strikers with limited or no space to make a difference. Once in while the inverted wingers should switch sides to send in early and dangerous crosses on the by-line into the box for H and co. Doku/Grealish and Savinho/Bernado holding on to the ball forever allows defenders to regain shape thus making it difficult to penetrate the box.
Ake is strong and good in every sense of a defender. Don't include him in this list as a soft or weak defender
